STEM News

Foundation students have started a new unit as part of the Design Technologies curriculum. They are learning about the role of engineers in creating designed solutions which solve problems. One of the tasks of an engineer is to create a technical drawing, considering the different views of a 3D object. They will design a house, and build it using Lego.
Grade 1 and grade 2 students are learning about biomimicry - using the features of living things to inspire an invention that solves a problem. They will go through the engineering design process by identifying a problem, creating a technical drawing of their designed solution, and building a prototype. Any boxes or clean recyclable donations would be appreciated!
Grade 3 and grade 4 students have finished their learning about some of Earth's resources - rocks, soil, and water. Our next unit will be testing materials.
Grade 5/6 students are building aircraft made out of balsa wood by following a design manual with instructions. They must accurately mark-out and safely cut and glue pieces together before testing their aircraft. These aircraft will be modified by the students with the aim of improving the performance of the aircraft.
