Grade 2 News

Term 3 is flying by!  Thank you to all the families who attended our recent Parent–Teacher Conversations; it was wonderful to see you and discuss your child’s progress.

Here’s a peek at what we’ve been learning over the past few weeks—and some ways you can join in at home!

Maths

Our students have been busy with multiplication and division, tackling lots of exciting challenges:

Multiplication:

  • Writing related multiplication facts within 40.
  • Learning multiplication tables for 2s, 5s, and 10s.
  • Counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s and using dot cards to practice.
  • Problem-solving with Mind Stretcher challenges to stretch their thinking!

Division:

  • Sharing and grouping objects to understand fair division.
  • Solving word problems and writing related division facts.
  • Using number lines to find equal groups.
  • Practicing division within 40 to build confidence and accuracy.

English

We’ve been exploring a range of texts, sounds, and beginning to write narratives

  • Decoding & Spelling: Reviewing complex codes, alternate spelling patterns, and specific sounds like /n/ and /le/.
  • Story Champs: Enjoyed Blitz Stories Levels C–I, including Mateo’s Mosquito Bites
  • Writing: Combining sentences with conjunctions and pronouns, using frontal adverbial phrases, and adding commas in lists.

Reading Tip: Nightly reading is a great habit! Aim for 10 minutes per night and record it in diaries. You can also use Little Learners for extra practice.

Knowledge: Human Cells & Digestion

Students have been discovering how our bodies work:

  • Digestive System: Identifying parts and summarising functions.
  • Cells & Tissues: Understanding different types of cells, how they work together, and how tissues make up organs.
  • Healthy Eating & Body Waste: Learning why healthy food choices matter and how the body gets rid of waste.

Reminders

  • Students need to bring their satchel and diary every day for organisation and communication.
  • Nightly reading is important—please encourage 10 minutes per night. Please ensure all students are bringing their readers to school every day.
  • Check Compass regularly for updates, including the release of CATS (Common Assessment Tasks). Viewing your child’s work and leaving comments strengthens home–school connections.
  • Last day of Term 3: 19th September

Term 3 has been full of learning, growth, and fun! Thank you for supporting your child’s learning journey—we can’t wait to see what amazing things the rest of the term brings.
