Foundation News

Dear Foundation Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to Week 7 of Term 3!
We are so impressed with how students are committed to their learning as they approach all tasks with growing confidence.
We are now approaching the last few weeks of Term 3 before the school holidays. Please remember that our last day of school is on Friday the 19th of September.
Learning Focuses
English
Students are continuing to revise all previously learned letters and are now beginning to decode and write CVCC, CCVC words (C= constant & V= vowel). Students are developing strong phonemic awareness, confidently identifying individual sounds and blending them to read complete words. We have also continued to focus on high‑frequency words such as the, is, a, no, to, my, and was, helping students to build fluency by recognising and reading the words they encounter most often in text.
Students have also started a new program called ‘Talk for Writing’. In this program, students are learning to retell a story called ‘Little Charlie’ and innovate different aspects to create their own story.
Literature
In Literature, we have been reading a book called ‘Tom Tom’ by Rosemary Sullivan. Using this text, students have been making comparisons with how the characters in the text lived and played in the past against how students live and play today. We have also been using ‘Tom Tom’ to create simple sentences, focusing on who (noun) is in the sentence and what they are doing (verb).
Maths
In Maths, students have been learning about patterns, ones that have two repeating units (AB e.g red and blue) and ones with three repeating units (ABC e.g red, blue and green, and AAB e.g blue, blue and red). They have engaged in a range of hands on activities where they have been asked to finish a pattern, and they have even created their own. More recently, we have started a new unit - breaking apart numbers. In this unit, students are using hands-on materials to demonstrate their understanding of breaking apart the whole to make their number smaller.
Reminders
Last day of Term 3: 19th September
Farm Land excursion: Term 4, 23rd of October
Hats
This is a quick reminder that sun smart hats are now compulsory for all students starting this week. Please ensure your child has a suitable hat (no caps) to wear during outdoor activities.
Starting next week, students without a hat will be required to play undercover for safety reasons, as part of our sun protection policy.
Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe!
