Student Engagement and Wellbeing

R U OK Day -

Next Thursday, September 11th, we will be recognising R U OK? Dayat school. The day is about reminding everyone to check in with those around them and promoting the importance of mental health and wellbeing.

To show our support, we encourage students to wear a touch of yellow (e.g. a ribbon, socks, hair tie, or t-shirt) on the day.

Thank you for helping us raise awareness and promote the message that a simple conversation can make a big difference.

Lego-Based Social Club with Melissa

A Lego based social skills group has recently been introduced to Wimba Primary School. It utilises a student’s love of Lego, as well as their strengths and interests, to develop communication skills and improve social skills through play. Currently the Lego groups are running with small groups of students mostly in foundation and year one.

Over 10 lessons, a small group of up to four students will get together weekly to build a Lego model. During this time the students will develop skills in turn taking, sharing, listening, following instructions and problem solving. The skills they learn will help improve their social interactions, improve their ability to participate in teamwork and improve their wellbeing. If you would be interested in having your child participate in a group like this in the future, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher to express your interest.

Breakfast Club –

It’s great to see more students coming to our Breakfast Club and starting their day with us. We will be adding more days in Term 4 and expanding our menu, so stay tuned! On the last day of Term 3, we will be serving hot Milos, so come past and grab a cup on the way to class.

Regular school attendance plays a vital role in every child’s learning, wellbeing, and connection to school life. Attending every day helps ensure students have the best opportunity to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically. We will be monitoring attendance closely and reaching out to support families where needed.
