VPC students have consistently engaged in their learning by applying their knowledge of numeracy, literacy, personal development skills and work-related skills to gain valuable practical life skills. This applied learning approach in the VPC program is an essential pathway to success designed to encourage learners to become responsible global citizens and valuable members of the community.

These are some highlights from Term 3:

Numeracy

Students have been busy creating their Health in Numeracy PowerPoint presentations, exploring the vital role numeracy plays in maintaining health and wellbeing. They have gathered personal data such as blood pressure, heart rate, diet, and physical activity, then used this information to strengthen their understanding and presentation skills.

Meanwhile, our Year 10 Pathways learners have been applying their mathematical knowledge creatively by using digital software to design three-dimensional objects. By combining 2D shapes to construct 3D models, students are building both technical and problem-solving skills while bringing their designs to life.

Literacy

Students have been working on individual or group projects to present in a digital or written format to the whole class. The learning requires students to find an area of interest to spark creativity and innovation and to apply this knowledge as catalyst for change in their lives and the community. Students also attended the Yong Performance at the Arts Centre Melbourne on the 30th of July 2025.  They were well behaved and represented the college with pride. This experience stimulated their critical and creating thinking skills and intercultural capabilities.

Work-Related Skills

Learners are exploring career opportunities and TAFE opportunities. VPC learners in the Year 10 pathways program recently attended Course Counselling at the Morwell and Churchill campuses, respectively. The purpose of the Course Counselling is to guide learners on pathways and learning opportunities for 2026.

Community Projects

The VPC Community Project cohort has shown great enthusiasm and commitment to the Hazelwood Estate change initiative. Each Tuesday, the students look forward to the hands-on experiences this project provides. So far, they have constructed and installed garden beds, built in the Wood Workshop, and worked in teams to strengthen their communication and collaboration skills.

In preparation for our upcoming Market Day at the end of Term 3, learners have also designed and built tables, as well as created a range of handmade products, including candles and soaps. We are excited to showcase their hard work and creativity, and we warmly invite families and community members to join us on Market Day to celebrate and support the achievements of our learners.

Literacy & Personal Development and Skills

Students are currently developing individual projects in Literacy, working towards creating portfolios that showcase their skills in written, oral, or digital formats. In Personal Development and Skills, they are actively involved in designing and delivering community awareness campaigns. Through careful planning and execution of their projects, learners are building valuable communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills while making meaningful contributions to their community.

As part of our Personal Development class, our group consisting of Tory, Lexi, Ben, Ceána, Scotlend and Damien, has chosen to send care packages to Australian soldiers who are deployed overseas. These care packages include treats such as Milo, Vegemite and Tim Tams as our way to show our appreciation for the hard work they do for our country. Our goal is to send these boxes over in time for Christmas, as we understand spending the holiday season without family must be hard.
