FAITH

During Terms 2 and 3, we have been practising our dance item called Faith for the school production. With support from our teachers and Connect 2 Dance, we’ve worked hard to learn the moves, remember the lyrics and be respectful audience members. At our level gatherings we practise, watch each other perform and give feedback to keep improving.

We are looking forward to week 8 for this theatrical extravaganza!

BOOK WEEK FUN

Book Week was such a blast! We dressed up as our favourite book characters, joined in fun activities and launched the Lamont Book Fair. The big highlight was the Book Week Parade, where everyone showed off their amazing costumes. We also read the CBCA shortlisted book - Flora: Australia’s Most Curious Plants by Tania McCartney and learned about some Australian wildflowers. What a great way to celebrate our love of books!

THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY

Mary, the mother of Jesus, is very special in the Catholic Church. On August 15 we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption, which remembers Mary being taken into Heaven with God. Mary always trusted God and said “Yes” to Him, even when things were hard. This special day helps us remember how much Mary loved God and the important part she had in Jesus’ life and in sharing God’s love with everyone. Check out some of our reflections after learning more about this feast day.

Ideas that ‘square up’ (align or agree with) with our thinking….

Mary was faithful, kind, loving and brave.

Mary was Jesus’ most loving disciple.

God picked the right woman to raise Jesus

Ideas that have ‘come to the top’ of your thinking (New ideas which have emerged) ….

We also need to trust God like Mary did.

The Word of God was made flesh through Mary's Yes.

We now know the significance of the word 'incarnate'.

Questions/ concerns/ possibilities that are ‘going around’ in your head…

Why did God take Mary’s soul and body to heaven?

How did Mary say Yes?

What did the disciples think of Mary when they first met her?

CONFIRMATION

Congratulations to Isabelle, Kasper, Jason and Lena from 5/6J who celebrated their Confirmation at SJV Parish.

We all selected a Saint to help us prepare for this special sacrament to act as a spiritual guide and inspiration for our catholic life. On the day, Father David anointed each of us by placing oil on our foreheads, while our sponsors laid a hand on our shoulder. After the service, we took photos with Father David and celebrated with our families.

HABITAT PROJECTS

Over the past few weeks, our class has been learning about different world habitats and the animals and plants that live in them. To show our learning, we worked in groups to create dioramas of habitats like the ocean, tundra, savannah and rainforest. We used materials such as sand, toy animals, leaves, paper and cotton to make them look realistic. It was a fun and creative way to share what we learned about the world’s amazing habitats.

We are looking forward to showcasing our work at our Habitat Expo next week!

PRIME MINISTER'S SPELLING BEE

On August 19th, some of us took part in the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee. We had to listen carefully to a word and then spell each word in just 25 seconds! The words started off easy but quickly got harder. We are so proud of everyone who gave it a go and we hope someone from our school wins.
