Italian

We’ve been busy in 5/6 this term!
Our Italian unit has taken us back in time to explore Ancient Rome. We read and translated the legend of Romulus and Remus, discussing how it connects to the beginnings of the Roman Empire.
The 5/6 ‘s then chose a famous Roman feature, such as the Colosseum, and wrote a short descriptive paragraph in Italian to describe it.
For example:
Questo è il Colosseo.
È fatto di pietra e di cemento.
È stato costruito nell’anno 79.
È stato usato come stadio.
This week, we investigated Latin, the language of the Romans and discovered how it connects to both Italian and English. For example:
Latin: aqua
Italian: acqua
English: water
(related English words: aquarium, aquatic).
We’ve also enjoyed learning and using Roman numerals!
In the final weeks of term, we will research Roman society and create written profiles in Italian of a citizen, slave, priest, soldier, or farmer, describing their daily life in Ancient Rome.
Bravissimi tutti!

This term in Italian, the 1/2 students are learning the names of common fruits and how to say which ones they like or don’t like. They’re also sorting foods into sano (healthy) and non sano (unhealthy), singing lively songs, and playing games to practise their words. Here are 2 catchy tunes we have been learning to sing during our Italian classes: La frutta and Che ora e'? The 1/2 ‘s will be excited to share these tunes with lyrics, at home with their families.
A big highlight this term will be acting out The Juice Bar story (I succi di frutta), where animals order fruit juice in Italian. The 1/2 s are using the clues to understand the story, speak in character, and then perform for their classmates. Please follow this link to share in the story at home- Juice Bar Story
Bravissimi tutti
