Grade 6 | Sassafras

Molesworth Excursion

Sassafras went to the Molesworth Environment Centre on Monday 25 August. We took part in lots of team-building activities. Here are some of our highlights of the day:

"One of my favourite activities was making a shelter that our group had to fit into entirely."

"One of my favourite things we did on the Molesworth Excursion was looking around the taxidermy room, because I got to see cool animals up close that I wouldn't normally be able to."

"One of my favourite activities was the tyre swing where you had to get as many people on the tyre without touching the ground."

"One of my favourite things was learning about animals like the Tasmanian devil."

"One of my favourite activities was looking in the nocturnal room and looking at the different animals."

"My favourite game was ‘Minefield’ because we had to work together as a team."

"My favourite activity was building a shelter because it was fun designing the shelter together."

"I really enjoyed the ‘Prison Break’ activity where you had to crawl and slip through tight spaces without touching the rope."

"My favourite activity was the rope swing because it was a challenge to get everyone across."

"One of my other favourite activities was ‘Toxic Waste’ because it was like a strategy game."

"My favourite activity was ‘Toxic Waste because when someone got blindfolded, it got really tricky."

"One of my favourite things was ‘Save Taz’ because we saved Taz and had great teamwork."

"I enjoyed building a fort out of sticks."

"My favourite activity was the game where we had to grab onto a rope and swing onto a tyre without falling. "

"The nocturnal room was one of my favourite activities because you had to find as many animals in the room with a flashlight. It looked and felt like the real bush."

"My favourite activity was making the bush huts because we all worked as a team and didn’t argue."

"One of my favourite things was the fur wall because I could feel different animal fur, and it was very fascinating."

"One of my favourite things was the ‘Minefield’ activity because we had to make a bridge with three planks."

"My favourite activity was building a house with sticks and leaves because it made us all work together and made us proud when we finished."

"My favourite activity was ‘Save Taz’ as we had to move the planks together. We used good communication."

"One of my favourite activities was the rope swing game because it was fun."

"One of my favourites was the ‘Minefield’ game where you had to build bridges and defuse the mines. It was fun because everyone had a job to do."

Wonder Art

After finishing the book Wonder, Grade 6 students have been creating self-portraits reminiscent of the book’s artwork. We then used one of the themes of the book to individualise their portraits and identify what makes them unique. Some of them are in the process of being completed.
