Year 10 Visual Art Students Visit ACCA in Melbourne

This week, our Year 10 Visual Art students had the exciting opportunity to travel to Melbourne and visit the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) as part of the REACH Art – Inspiring Creative Careers program. This initiative connects regional students with leading contemporary artists and art spaces, helping to spark creativity and explore potential careers in the arts.

Students explored ACCA’s current exhibition, Five Acts of Love, which offered powerful and thought-provoking interpretations of love—from grief and memory to resistance, spirituality, and connection. The experience challenged students to think deeply and creatively about how love can be represented in art. They also did a deep dive into the role of the curator in an exhibition and some of the other professionals that are involved in the production of an exhibition - installation, marketing, finance and conservation.

The day included interactive workshops, a hands-on collage activity, and the creation of a public art sculpture. Students also enjoyed a guided tour that explored the impact of public art and its placement in different environments.

To top it all off, we visited a unique interactive public artwork that doubles as a “risk play park”—a large-scale sculpture playground full of hidden surprises, like tiny dinosaur dioramas tucked beneath the structures.

Our Year 10 students were curious, respectful, and enthusiastic throughout the day. Well done!

Yr 10 Visual Art - Watercolour Painting

Year 10 Visual Art students have been exploring watercolour painting techniques through the work of renowned First Nations artist Albert Namatjira. Drawing inspiration from his distinctive style and focus on Central Australian landscapes, students selected locations featured in Namatjira’s paintings as the basis for their own artworks. Before beginning their paintings, they researched the traditional names and cultural significance of these places to the local Indigenous communities. Using this knowledge alongside their developing watercolour skills, students created unique and meaningful landscape representations.
