Secondary 7/8 Term 3
Secondary 7/8B, 7/8C, 7/8D and 7/8F have had a great start to their semester of Digital Technology. They created a simple animation in an app, where they could move different objects to tell a story. They also showed fantastic teamwork skills while playing in Minecraft, creating a shared village in each class.
Each week, we discuss a safety tip to help us learn how to use technology safely, such as how to communicate respectfully online.
Next term, we will create a stop motion movie and document our learning in PowerPoint.
Secondary classes have completed instrumental workshops on keyboards, guitar, drum kit and singing. They have then put those skills into practice as a band, playing either APT or Ordinary. Secondary classes have showcased some excellent musical abilities with these songs.
Section bands have done some amazing rehearsals and performances this term!
Students in Secondary 7/8 each engaged in a rugby and fitness unit as part of the Physical Education program this term. Eltham Rugby Club supported the program by sending out specialist coaches to work with our students to learn the rules of rugby, all in a safe and supported environment. Students really enjoyed the competitive tag games that they played with their classmates. Scoring tries was a lot of fun!
Selected students also joined the Track and Field team, where they competed in 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m, Shot Put and Long Jump events at School Sport Victoria (SSV) Northern Metro Region Track and Field Championships. Many students qualified to compete at the SSV State Track and Field Championships in Term 4.
This term, Secondary 7/8 students explored the major stages of human life, focusing on the key characteristics of each stage. Building on this knowledge, they took a deeper look into puberty and the physical, social, emotional and mental changes that can occur during adolescence. Students also examined the importance of respect, consent and healthy relationships. Through discussions and role-play activities, they practised what these values look like in everyday situations, helping them build confidence and understanding in real-life contexts.
It’s been a Spectacular term! Each student followed a similar process—sketching, designing and painting a real vinyl record—as part of a collaborative, large-scale art installation for the new ‘Rock n Roll’ production. Through plenty of trial and error, the Secondary 7/8's really should be commended for their determination and commitment to the project.
The students in Secondary 7/8A, 7/8E, 7/8G AND 7/8H have been enjoying using the iPads to develop their photography skills this term. They have learnt about lighting and costumes and had a great time using the TV studio and radio room in the discovery centre. They have learnt digital editing skills to create fictional wanted posters of themselves.
Students in Secondary 7/8 have been learning about the difference between fruit and vegetables and the importance of eating our colours. We have an awareness of the importance of eating various fruits and vegetables and how they assist our bodies to stay healthy. We made healthy smoothies using fresh produce. We cut up fruits and vegetables and made a corn relish dip. Students made toasties, and to celebrate our learning this term, we will make Churros with chocolate dipping sauce.
Students in Secondary 7/8B, 7/8C, 7/8D and 7/8F have participated in weekly demonstration and experiment sessions. They have practiced selecting and wearing correct Personal Protective Equipment for each experiment and demonstration. So far we have explored the concepts of acid/base reactions, density and endothermic reactions (experiments that create heat). Experiments have included Boom Bags, Orange Sink and Float, Sugar Stacking and Lava Lamps. Students are looking forward to Elephant Toothpaste at the end of the term.
