WELLBEING & LEARNING DIVERSITY

National Child Protection Week will run from Sunday 7th to Saturday 13th September and is coordinated by the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN).

The week is a reminder that caring for children and young people is something we all share responsibility for. It asks us to think about their safety and wellbeing both now and in the future, while reinforcing the message: ‘Every child in every community needs a fair go.’

This year’s theme, ‘Every conversation matters: Shifting conversation to action’ - highlights that while discussions are important, they also need to lead to real action. Every child should feel heard, valued, and genuinely protected.

NAPCAN is working to move beyond talk, strengthening prevention and advocacy so that communities are empowered to take practical steps that prevent harm, ensuring children truly feel heard and experience safety, care and protection.

This focus on action connects directly to the Victorian Child Safe Standards, in particular:

  • Standard 3: Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
  • Standard 4: Families and communities are informed, and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
  • Standard 8: Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
