Principal's Message

Our children are our future...

Principal's Message

This is a special edition of the Family iNewsletter. The last edition will be released on the coming weekend and it will contain the staff team for 2026.

I write this at a difficult time with the tragic events occurring at Bondi Beach over the weekend in Sydney. There are no words to do justice to something so horrific. My thoughts immediately turned to our children and community.  I extend my thoughts and goodwill to anyone reading this affected by the tragedy. I wish I had something to say to take the pain away.

At school, we are taking a calm, supportive and inclusive approach and are closely monitoring staff and student wellbeing. I met with the whole staff team before the day began to outline our collective strategy. We will monitor without being intrusive with our narrative. We will use only age-appropriate language and won't create a problem that wasn't there in the first place (from a child's perspective). We certainly don't frame any responses in a political fashion.

Families may find it helpful to:

  • Limit children’s exposure to distressing news and images
  • Encourage children to ask questions and share how they are feeling if the issue is raised
  • Reassure children that they are safe and supported

I encourage you to take a wellbeing-first, calm and measured approach and limit exposure to distressing detail.

At school, we are:

  • Monitoring student wellbeing and providing space for students to talk if they choose, but not prompting for responses
  • Being particularly mindful of students and families from trauma-affected backgrounds, for whom current events may trigger past experiences
  • Encouraging staff to check in with one another and seek support where needed for students and staff
