Year 5/6 Cluster News
HOME INQUIRY:
Preparing for camp: Please work with your child on being independent with activities that will be done on camp. This includes dressing themselves, showering independently, packing their own suitcase and packing away their sleeping bag if possible.
Camp: Camp will be held on Monday 30th March - Wednesday 1st April (Week 10) at Woodhouse Adventure Park. We will be getting on the bus at 9am on Monday. If your child catches the school bus but you are able to drop them on the morning, this would be helpful. Please drop all bags to the Worship Centre, not the courtyard.
Students were sent home with a packing list and consent form. Please ensure you read this carefully and pack all required items. Please also label all items.
Clothing: Students are expected to wear modest, neat and practical clothing suitable for an outdoor setting. Shirts should have sleeves for sun protection (singlets are not appropriate), and enclosed footwear must be worn at all times. A hat is required for sun safety. Clothing should not display inappropriate language, images, or references to social or political themes.
What to bring:

Electrical items – cameras, phones, iPads, DS, expensive watch
Singlet or tank tops – sun safety
Soft drinks, lollies, snacks or sports drinks
Aerosol deodorant as it sets off the fire alarms
The day following camp will be a gentle transition back to school, with students revising some learning from the term and engaging in reflective tasks from camp.
Year 6 Jackets: There are 3 ways to measure your child for the jacket. Please read carefully before measuring.
OPTION 1: Use a measuring tape to measure all the way around your child’s body, at their chest height, just underneath their arms. You will then half that measurement. That is the size of your child. That would give them a very snug fit. It is recommended that you order a size up from that. Eg. Your child measures 108cm around their body. Half of that would be 54cm. On the sizing chart, that would be an XS. Go one size up from that and your child should be ordering a S.
OPTION 2: Get a jumper that your child fits in perfectly that you like the size of. Measure across the front of the jumper from side stitching to side stitching. That measurement will match perfectly with the sizing chart. You do not need to add a size up if you like that size.
OPTION 3: We have one small sample jacket (size 14) in the 5/6 cluster area with the order forms. If you would like to try it on to get an indication of size, you are welcome.
Parents can start to come in to fill out their order forms by tomorrow (Friday). The faster we can get orders in, the faster we can get them made. There is a 6 week turn around as they are made in Australia. The cost of the Varsity jacket is $75.
iPads: Please ensure your child has working headphones and a keyboard. The iPad keyboard will be important in the development of keyboard typing skills which will be part of their class learning. The headphones will be regularly used in class for a variety of purposes. Please check the connection of the headphones with the iPad as newer versions of iPads have a different connection point.
Uniform:
Please ensure your child is in correct school uniform, which includes correct formal shoes on Monday and Wednesday and no additional jewellery. Please refer to the Uniform Guidelines located on the school’s website. There have been students wearing incorrect uniform, including socks and shoes and it would be appreciated if these could be rectified. (https://www.goldengrove.sa.edu.au/school-life/uniform/ )
