Walk for water day - Project Compassion
Our recent Caritas Water Walk was a truly meaningful and engaging experience for all students, helping bring to life the challenges faced by many people around the world who do not have easy access to clean water.
Each class took part in an immersive journey around the school, stepping into the shoes of communities in countries such as Tanzania. Students moved between five checkpoints, pausing along the way for moments of reflection, prayer, trivia and discussion. Carrying buckets of water back to their “village,” students experienced firsthand the physical effort and responsibility involved in collecting water each day.
A special highlight of the day was the leadership shown by our Year 6 student leaders and SRC representatives from Years 3–5, who confidently facilitated each checkpoint. These students guided activities, led prayers and reflections and supported younger students throughout the experience. Their organisation, enthusiasm and sense of responsibility played a vital role in the success of the Water Walk, demonstrating outstanding leadership and a genuine commitment to service.
At the conclusion of the walk, students were faced with an important decision. With limited water available, they had to think carefully about how to divide it between essential needs - drinking, washing, gardening and cooking. This powerful activity encouraged students to reflect on priorities, fairness and the reality that not everyone has enough for all their needs.
Back in the classroom, students continued their learning through thoughtful reflection tasks, engaging activities, and videos that deepened their understanding and empathy. It was wonderful to see such meaningful conversations taking place, with students demonstrating compassion, gratitude, and a growing awareness of global inequalities.
I am incredibly proud of the way our students embraced this experience with respect and maturity. The Water Walk not only raised awareness but also strengthened our commitment to living out our faith through action and supporting the important work of Caritas.
Here is the presentation created for student engagement, for your reference.
We have until the end of week 9 to continue accepting donations for Project compassion.
But the work isn’t done yet, and there is still time to donate! Will you help make this our school’s most meaningful Project Compassion yet?
With gratitude and blessings,
