Literacy

Our Year 5s loved learning about World War 1, why it started and the impact it had not only on soldiers but also on wildlife. We explored the role of horses in the war. Were they the soldiers’ saviours and a reason the Allied Powers won, or was it cruel to involve animals in such a brutal time? Ask your kids, they all wrote amazing persuasive pieces explaining their side!

CAMP RUMBUG!

We were so lucky to have Mr Jaynes, Ms Maloney, Ms Prosser, and Oscar join us on our Year 5 camp. The activities were amazing, the kids were fantastic, and everyone had an awesome time—pushing teachers into the lake, throwing mud, and enjoying a sing and dance! These camp experiences are so important for the kids, helping them build resilience while having a blast.

Topic - How Living Things Have Evolved!

Student have continued learning how scientists can tell that living things have changed over time, using a variety of evidence. Our young researchers discovered that fossils are an important clue, showing the shapes of animals and plants that lived millions of years ago. They learned how fossil sequences reveal how species have slowly changed over time.

The preparation for Stations of the Cross was a very hard, but fun time. The first time we saw the scripts and we saw who we were with, everyone was filled with joy!

The first day we practised, some of us felt nervous, but once we practised more and more, everyone got more confident.

After all of us got confident with the biblical script, we were able to see our recontextualised one. Although it was a bit of a struggle getting all our lines under control, most of us got them right straight away.

The week before Stations of the Cross, we started talking about costumes! The costumes needed to be very neutral and old-looking. In the week of Stations of the Cross, we did some dress rehearsals and last-minute changes.

It was the day of the performance, and chills ran down our backs as we put on our costumes and went to our spots.

As the first gong struck, everyone focused, ready to perform with smiles on their faces, excited for what's next to come.

The performance had 1–9 acts, starting with Palm Sunday and ending with the Crucifixion of Jesus. Everybody had a lot of fun with their groups, sharing smiles and laughter.

When we first did the performance, we stood in front of the parents and students. We felt very nervous and panicked. However, as the performance went on, we became more confident and focused. The place was quiet and respectful, and everyone worked together as a team to make the performance meaningful.

At the end, we were filled with joy and happiness when it finished.

We had a bunch of fun learning lines, sharing smiles, and living in the moment with our groups.

Thank you.
