Around the School

Art
VCE Art students visited Hamilton Art Gallery to meet with the curator, Dr Samantha Happe. Samantha walked the students through her decision making when pairing objects from the 10,000 strong collection with contemporary photography by Berlin based artist Florian Hetz. The students demonstrated the school values as an attentive and respectful audience.
Students visited the MUD gallery to see a community volunteer based gallery in action, as a contrast to the public funded Hamilton Art Gallery. Some were initially disappointed there was no mud on display!
It was especially lovely to see former Admin staff member Mrs Bernie Cook display her beautiful watercolours.
Cooking
In Year 9 Food Science as part of their Independent Cooking CAT students had to select a recipe to cook independently (with minimal teacher assistance). They had to adjust their recipe to serve 2 people. Students had to list their ingredients for Wendy to purchase and make sure their recipe was in metric measurements and temperatures.
The class did an amazing job, with a variety of dishes including pizza, sausage rolls, chicken parma, hamburgers with the lot, blueberry muffins, pasta alfredo and triple choc muffins.
The Year 12 Unit 3 & 4 Food Studies class have been busy in the kitchen cooking delicious Monte Carlo biscuits. Students have been developing their practical cooking skills while exploring food production techniques, presentation and flavour combinations. The biscuits were a great success and certainly didn’t last long!
Product Design
The Textiles room has been abuzz with creativity with the Year 7 Product Design and Technology students in full design mode! Students followed the design process by developing ideas in their sketchbooks to create an original character design. They then applied their watercolour painting skills and stitching techniques to transform their original characters into an impressive, individual, one-of-a-kind 3D textile cushion!
Do It For Dolly Day
Students recently showed their support for Do It For Dolly Day on Friday 8th of May by dressing in blue and wearing casual clothes to help raise awareness about bullying and the importance of kindness and mental health support for young people.
It was wonderful to see so many students getting involved and showing their support for such an important cause. Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we raised a total of $315.10 through casual clothes donations.
Students in Year 7 and 8 participated in Do It for Dolly Day by raising awareness of bullying by creating and displaying blue bunting and butterflies around the school.
Rotary @ Breakfast Club
We were lucky to have some Rotarians join us for Breakfast Club in Week 3, they cooked up a storm providing bacon and eggs and toast for everyone on Thursday morning. A heartfelt thank you to the members who attended, we look forward to seeing you come back next term :)
The School Breakfast Club program provides free, nutritious food to students so no child begins the school day hungry on Thursdays. Designed to improve concentration, classroom behavior, and overall attendance, these programs also offer lunches and family food packs for communities experiencing hardship.
