Year 9 & 10 Sub-School News

Assistant Principal's Report
As the term draws to a close it is a chance to reflect on all the wonderful events, activities and learning that have taken place throughout the Term One. Students in Year 9 and 10 have had the opportunity to be involved in the Swimming Carnival, the International Women’s Day Breakfast, interschool sport days and whole school assemblies celebrating our student leaders and cultural diversity.
Year 9 students have completed their final NAPLAN tests with positive attitudes and we look forward to seeing their results later in the year. They have also completed the Morrisby Profile Assessment and will take part in interviews next term to help unpack these results. They participated in a day of proactive wellbeing activities and were able to learn about how to look after their friends when they are out at social events outside of school.
Year 10 Outdoor Education students travelled to Anglesea for their surf camp and enjoyed the opportunity to develop their camping and surfing skills. Some students have participated in offsite activities in their PE classes and a large number of students have commenced their VCE studies by undertaking a Unit 1 subject this term.
Parent, Student, Teacher Conferences were well attended and provided the opportunity for parents to meet with the teachers of their child.
We wish all our families a safe and restful holiday and look forward to seeing you back on Monday 20 April.
Our Year 9 Outdoor Education students will depart for their Great Ocean Walk camp on Wednesday 22 April and the Year 10 students will depart for their camp to Phillip Island on Monday 27 April.

Year 9
Our Year 9 students have made a tremendous start to the year. It has been fantastic to see the level of enthusiasm and focus that our students have displayed. We have had wonderful feedback from the teachers of Year 9 as well with over 150 green compass entries recorded so far.
We have had several Year 9 events this term. On Monday 16 March we had a “Party Safe” incursion from the Red Frogs organisation. Students learnt valuable information about how to stay safe as they begin navigating the exciting, but not always completely safe, world of parties. The cohort was highly engaged, helped no doubt by the provision of red frogs to those who participated, and they represented the school very well throughout.
On Monday 23 March, the Year 9 cohort took part in Proactivity throughout the day. The program aimed to foster connections through movement, providing an environment where students can develop socially, emotionally, and creatively. The workshop blends cognitive challenges, social interaction, and creative problem-solving in a lively and engaging active setting. Activities included a giant puzzle, a Zumba class, and an obstacle course. Well done to the entire Year 9 cohort on your demonstration of positive teamwork and social inclusion. Keep up the great work!

Year 10
Our Year 10 students have made an outstanding start to the year, demonstrating enthusiasm, commitment, and a strong sense of community across all aspects of school life. It has been particularly pleasing to see such high levels of engagement, both in the classroom and beyond.
Many Year 10 students have taken on the challenge of starting a VCE subject this semester. As all students start to think about decisions that will affect their journey beyond MGC, we have encouraged all Year 10’s to begin thinking about their work experience placements so they can get organsied for the program in Term Four.
A major highlight of the term was the Semester One Year 10 Outdoor Education Surf Camp. Students fully embraced the opportunity to challenge themselves and try new experiences, including swimming, surfing, and kayaking. The camp provided a valuable immersion into the outdoors, helping students build resilience, teamwork, and confidence. It was fantastic to see students supporting one another and stepping outside their comfort zones.
Looking ahead, we are excited for what’s to come in Term Two, particularly the upcoming Year 10 Camp to Phillip Island. With a focus on identity and belonging, this experience will encourage students to reflect on their personal growth and strengthen connections with their peers. Please note that the Compass event is live for all Year 10 Parents and Carers, and requires your consent. Thank you to those who have already completed this.
We are incredibly proud of the way Year 10 has started the year and look forward to seeing their continued growth and involvement throughout the rest of 2026.
