Student Leadership Update

Term One has been such a strong and exciting start to leadership at MGC in 2026. From the very beginning, it’s been amazing to see the energy across the school and the way so many students have already gotten involved.
We kicked things off with the annual Pedal Power Cinema, organised by our Environment Captains and yes, Melbourne weather definitely made an appearance! Despite the rain, the event was a huge success, with the Enviro Team showcasing a range of eco-friendly initiatives and ideas that reflect the growing commitment to sustainability within our school community.
Our Sports and House Captains also set the tone for 2026 at the Swimming Carnival, bringing incredible energy and spirit. The addition of new activities around the pool made the day even more engaging, and house pride was on full display especially with the House Captains introduction of the now-iconic “house doof sticks,” which quickly became a crowd favourite.
The Diversity Team created a meaningful and vibrant Harmony Week, finishing with a whole-school assembly that was easily one of the highlights of the term. Seeing students proudly wear cultural dress and share traditional performances was a powerful reminder of the strength and diversity within our MGC community.
We are so proud of all our Enviro, Diversity, Sports and House Captains for the passion and effort they have put into making such a positive start to the year.
International Women’s Day was another standout moment. We had the privilege of hosting an alumni panel on the theme “Balancing the Scales,” where past MGC students shared honest and inspiring reflections on their journeys beyond school. It was a really valuable opportunity to hear how their education has shaped the way they see the world today.
Members of the School Executive also attended an International Women’s Day Breakfast at Parliament House, hosted by the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools. It was an incredible experience to connect with other student leaders and reflect on what leadership looks like in our own communities. We were also lucky to hear from Members of Parliament Jess Wilson and Georgie Crozier, who shared thoughtful insights into female leadership and the importance of creating opportunities for young women.
There is still so much to look forward to as we wrap up the term, including the World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser led by the Philanthropy Team, and the ‘Lend a Paw’ Fete supporting the RSPCA a fantastic initiative led by students from the School for Student Leadership.
Behind the scenes, we’ve also been busy planning what’s ahead, including an exciting Leadership Conference coming to MGC next term.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to such a positive start to the year. Wishing you all a safe and relaxing holiday we can’t wait to see what Term Two brings!

Lend A Paw Fete
We are Issy, Audrey, Isla, Kavya, Lila and Eddie, a group of Year 11 students from Melbourne Girls' College, who last Saturday held our Lend a Paw Fete, raising money for the RSPCA.
In Term FOu of 2024, we were lucky to be selected to go to the School for Student Leadership; a 9-week immersive camp where we learnt all about concepts surrounding leadership and resilience.
While on camp, we were tasked with planning and creating a project to continue beyond the program that would benefit a part of our community we value; a Community Learning Project (CLP). As a group we decided on an issue we are all very passionate about - Animals! From this our idea evolved into a pet themed fete to raise money and awareness.
We are happy to say it was a big success, with an overwhelming number of raffle tickets sold and the community coming together to show their support. Our main goal was always to spread awareness for the wellbeing and living conditions of animals as well as the amazing work the RSPCA do; and with our event we have done just that.
