Global Education and International Student Program

Global Education and International Student Program

We started 2026 in our new Global Education Office. A space large enough for all students. We have organised student group project meetings, met online with a local high school to work on a project, held study sessions, interviewed students from China, Germany, Tawain and Vietnam and most importantly, students have used this space to seek support and connect to the college, the team and other students.

Global Learning Student Ambassador Program

It may have had a name change but the philosophy is the same: to provide students with a voice. This year is our fourth year participating in the project and each year students work hard to showcase culture by bringing the MGC community together and this year will be no different.

We had our first session organised by the International Education and Partnerships Division, where international and local students from government and non-government schools from across Victoria, met to share their school experiences and engage in meaningful discussions. Since this session students have met online with our partner school to decide on a theme and had many lunchtime meetings to plan activities.

Our team in 2026, made up of three international students, and three local students, will lead this project to support international students, make them feel welcomed and included in the school community, and to help local students develop greater intercultural understanding and global mindsets.

We look forward to seeing the final product in August.

 Victorian Global Learning Awards

The annual Victorian Global Learning Awards celebrate international student excellence and recognise schools and homestay families for outstanding global learning and engagement.  This year we nominated Year 12 student, Olivia Li for her work in the performing arts at school and in the community.

In 2025, Olivia was selected to be one of 16 Youth Ambassadors for the Melbourne Theatre Company, ‘As a Youth Ambassador, I've been granted exclusive access to witness the magic behind the curtains, like interviewing a passionate stage director. The most eye-opening moment came during the performance of The Black Woman of Gippsland, where I saw how lighting designers and stage managers work in perfect sync to create breath-taking moments. These experiences have transformed me from a regular audience member into someone who appreciates every detail of theatrical storytelling. Being a Youth Ambassador is developing my critical theatre eye. It has developed my communication skills and enabled connection between drama lovers. The way it is different to drama class at school is how I could interview the actors and understand more about my future pathway. I am loving this experience.’

We were excited to hear that Olivia has been shortlisted as a finalist so we wish her all the best for 22 May. Besides eagerly awaiting a result, Olivia will perform a short piece on the piano at the formal presentation.

Harmony Day

Harmony Day was a vibrant celebration at our school, with our international students excited to share their culture and talents. We were amazed by Lissa’s sword dance performance, an impressive feat made even more remarkable by the fact that she taught herself the entire routine in just one month. Pania delivered a  mesmerising handpan solo, while Cassie, Joyce, and Una performed the Chinese song The Last Page. Ayhans performed a rendition of La Vie En Rose on the guitar. We also enjoyed a vibrant K-pop dance So Good by Caroline, which brought great energy and excitement to the celebration, as well as a beautiful traditional Chinese dance, Reunion of Green and White, performed by Cassie and Liz. This was followed by a heartfelt performance of What I Miss by Cindy, Du, Estreyla and Evangeline.

A special highlight of the day was led by our international student Amy Yao and ISP Student Captain, Traci, who brought together both international and local students from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Amy Yao, Sayori, Juliana, Anna Nguyen, Ayhans, Anette, Jana, Carrey, Nova, Annie, Anna Isaac, Zara Lanigan, Ro, Anoushka, Una, Evangeline, Krishn, and Pania. It was such an amazing moment to see everyone come together! Accompanied by traditional Chinese musical instruments, the zither played by Galatea and the ruan by Traci, along with Estreyla on drums, Joyce on piano, and Amy on the cello, they performed We Are the World in multiple languages. It was truly powerful and beautifully captured the spirit of unity and diversity at MGC.

Thank you to the Diversity team for organising a wonderful performance celebrating Harmony Day.
