Art Club
Welcome to our Art Club, hosted every Thursday lunchtime in room 330, where everyone is welcome! We are a friendly group of people who love to try new ways of being creative. We don’t stick to just one style, instead, we explore all kinds of cool projects. So far, we have experimented with cyanotypes (sun prints), alcohol inks, and the messy fun of paint pouring. Our club is all about having a go and seeing what happens!
In our last session, we decided to try something a bit more classic by following a Bob Ross tutorial. It was a total blast! We all sat down together and tried our best to keep up with his famous painting steps. Even though he paints pretty fast, it was a really fun challenge for everyone. There was a lot of laughing as we tried to make "happy little trees" just like him. It was a great experience because, even though we all followed the same video, every painting turned out unique. Everyone left with a smile and a finished landscape they were proud of.
We look forward to seeing everyone again next term for more creative fun.

11VCD Great Women Of Design Exhibition
The Great Women of Design exhibition is a traveling exhibition that celebrates the impact and contributions of women in design around the world. As design has historically been a male-dominated field, this exhibition highlights the trailblazing work of female designers across a wide range of disciplines, including architecture, graphic design, fashion, and interior design.
To support and promote the exhibition, local designers (11VCD students) are invited to collaborate by creating a series of designer items inspired by a selected female designer. These items will be available for purchase at the exhibition shop and book fair, serving as souvenirs and promotional materials that celebrate the legacy and influence of women in design.
Year 8 Visual Art - Fauvist Inspired Landscape
Fauvism was a short-lived, influential French avant-garde art movement that flourished roughly between 1904 and 1908. The Fauvists, including artists like Henri Matisse and Andre Derain, were known for their bold and expressive use of colour. They believed that colour could be used to convey emotion, rather than simply representing the natural world. The Fauvists often painted landscapes using unnatural colours-bright, vivid hues of red, blue, yellow, and green, ignoring the colours that would be found in nature in favour of creating mood and energy through their brushstrokes and compositions.
For this task, students used paint sticks to apply colour to their pencil sketches of the Birrarung (Yarra River). Taking inspiration from the Fauves, they used bold, unconventional colours to create an emotional, energetic landscape.
Year 8 Visual Art - Exploring Impressionism
Impressionism was an influential art movement that emerged in France during the late 19th century. Artists such as Claude Monet, Pierre Auguste Renoir and Camille Pissarro were interested in capturing everyday scenes and the impression of a moment in time. Rather than focusing on fine detail, Impressionist artists explored the effects of light, movement and atmosphere using loose brushstrokes and visible textures. They often worked quickly to reflect changing light and natural environments.
In this task, students explored Impressionism through painting and collage. They experimented with layering, colour mixing and expressive markmaking to suggest light and movement within their compositions. Students created expressive artworks that reflect the fleeting, observational style of the Impressionists while developing their own individual artistic interpretation.
Year 9 Photography
The Year 9 Photography students have been creating photographs based on the art elements and rules of composition. We also visited the city to takes photographs inspired by the artist Vivian Maier.
