Dear Parents,

Building News

Just yesterday, our construction certificate came through from Canterbury-Bankstown Council, allowing us to begin the demolition of our old K-1 block on Monday.

It has nearly been a three year journey, for us to get to this point and we are very thankful that we are finally able to commence work.

I have included a video below for you to watch to explain a few important things: https://drive.google.com/file/d/18HWQMQKP4adunn6oNq6Bbw_yaGlqBRrZ/view?usp=sharing

The main change to current practice is that our Kiss and Drop is NON OPERATIONAL. To pick your child up from school, you will need to park and walk in to collect them. You will need to use the car park or nearby streets. Please note that ample parking is available on Ashcroft Street, including additional parking around the roundabout area. I certainly understand that this may cause frustration for families, particularly those with small children and toddlers, and I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience.

This has been a long journey for our little school to reach this point, it is our first major building work that has taken place and it marks an important and necessary step in the continued growth and history of our school.

I have asked both our school and ELC staff to park on the street to help maximise available spaces for families. However, I need to be very clear: if the car park becomes unsafe, I will have no choice but to close it. This is a shared responsibility for all of us. I continue to receive reports of unsafe driving and children being dropped off or exiting vehicles in random locations within the carpark without appropriate supervision. This creates a significant safety risk. I ask all families to take extra care, drive slower than what you think you need to and ensure children are always supervised. Our priority must be the safety of every child.

I want to again say, that as much as we will limit all possible disruptions, all of us are going to have to come to terms with the fact, that our school will operate differently for the next 6-9 months.

Whilst there are some necessary disruptions, we have to remember that this is EXCITING. The thought of all of our students in brand new purpose built classrooms is something all of us should look forward to.

Creating Meaningful Experiences for Our Children

Recently, our Kindergarten students visited Calmsley Hill Farm and had such a wonderful time exploring the farm and learning about different animals. This excursion connected closely with our Science unit this term, where students have been learning about how living things have characteristics that help them survive in their environment. For many children, this was more than just an excursion. It was an opportunity to experience learning in a hands-on and meaningful way.

Throughout the day, students observed different animals and learned about camels and how their bodies are suited to their environment, as well as how different farm animals are cared for. The students gave thoughtful answers, shared observations and discovered many new things about farm life.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing the excitement on the children’s faces as they had close interactions with the animals, watched demonstrations and explored the farm together. Experiences like these help bring learning to life in a way that cannot always be replicated inside the classroom.

Creating meaningful experiences for children does not always need to be extravagant. Often, it is the smaller moments of discovery, excitement and wonder that leave the greatest impact. It was truly a joy to watch our Kindergarten students learn, laugh and create special memories together throughout the day.
