Clay Target Shooting

The annual GD Senior Clay Target Shoot was held on Monday, 9 September, bringing together talented shooters to compete in a day filled with skill, precision, and fun.

The event saw strong school participation, and the students showcased remarkable shooting abilities.

This year’s overall High gun was Harry Brown, who displayed outstanding accuracy and composure throughout the competition. Harry's dedication to the sport and consistent performance earned him the top position; he has certainly set a high standard for future competitors.

We would also like to congratulate year 12 Libby Diprose on taking out first in senior girls, shooting consistently throughout the day.

We thank parents and students for their unwavering participation and support on the day and throughout the competitive shooting season. We also appreciate the efforts of the participating schools, whose involvement and sportsmanship contributed to the day's success.

A special thank you goes to the teachers, coaches, and organisers for their time, effort, and dedication to making the event successful.

Hockey

What a fantastic conclusion to the 2024 Hockey Season! On Saturday, the College won four premierships: Division 5, Division 4, U16s, and Division One Women.

Our season concluded with our annual hockey dinner, which had 175 in attendance. It was a lovely evening and an opportunity to acknowledge all coaches, managers, players, and parents for their unwavering support.

I thank everyone who has made the season possible, especially Mr Stephen Nelson, Mr Ben Hawthorne, and our Captains, Lily Cush and Fingal Jackson.

Women's Hockey

On the Grand Final weekend, the College Women faced off against Dunkeld Blue once again to see who would take home the Cup. The game started off with an intense first quarter. College scored the first goal, and Dunkeld came out hungry to even up the score in the second quarter.

College settled themselves, focusing and scoring again in the third quarter, which was closely followed by a goal from Dunkeld. As the fourth quarter began the score was 2-1, it could be anyone's game. Following two yellow cards, College was down to nine on the field. It was silent on the sidelines. With 30 seconds left on the clock, the College Women relaxed a little and let reality sink in - they had gone from the season's underdogs to the Grand Final winners. The goal scorer for the game was Emma Robertson (2).

Men's Hockey

It was not to be, but I was tremendously proud of the team's determination to play their game despite a horrific start to the match.  Down 0-3 within 7 minutes, many teams would have dropped heads and folded; the boys did not!

Harry Dorahy (2), Ciaran Nelson, and Jack Jarvis scored goals as we controlled the game for several periods. Unfortunately, despite getting within one goal at one point, we could not bridge the gap.

It has been a pleasure to be associated with the team this year - a great group of young men! I particularly thank the two “oldies” on the team - Mr Stephen Nelson and Mr Ben Hawthorne- for their contributions.

I wish all the boys well for Vietnam, exams and whatever else is on the schedule for this year. I hope to be able to watch most of them in action again next season.
