Junior School Camps

This week, our Year 1 and Year 2 students are on camp in the southern Grampians. For the Year 1 students, this is their first overnight camp. Next week, our Year 5 students will visit Ballarat, where they will be transported back to 1854 for a two-day costume school experience at Sovereign Hill. School camps hold significant value for students’ personal and social development. They build independence, assist with social skill development, build problem-solving and resilience skill sets, boost confidence, offer physical challenges and create lasting memories.

Frozen JR.

I had the pleasure of attending the first after-school stage rehearsal for Frozen Jr in the Simons Auditorium last Thursday. I was amazed at how well our featured cast had learnt their lines, crafted accents and choreographed dance moves. There was a tangible energy on the stage amongst the Junior School actors and actresses. Tickets are still available for the evening performance on Thursday, 17 October and the afternoon performance on Friday, 18 October.

Magic Of Myrniong and Footy Colours Day

The last day of Term Three is Friday, 20 September. We have an early finish at 2.15 pm. After-school care at the ELC will close at the earlier time of 4.30 pm. We will be running a Magic of Myrniong and Footy Colours Day. Magic of Myrniong sees students join us from other schools to taste the Junior School. We will also host our annual Footy Colours Day. Students and staff are encouraged to come to school in their favourite footy clothing and colours, with a gold coin donation to the Fight Cancer Foundation. They can wear AFL, rugby league, rugby union or soccer team colours. Our College Parents and Friends have kindly offered to cook sausages on the barbeque for lunch, and there will be a Learmonth House bake sale at recess and lunch.Looking forward to a terrific end to Term Three!

ICAS Competiton Mathematics Results

Fourteen students from Year 2 to Year 6 recently sat the ICAS Mathematics competition paper. We achieved encouraging results in this challenging assessment of Numeracy.

The following students received Star Student awards at this week’s Assembly.

Year 1: Mikey Slabbert, for consistently improving his ‘ready to learn’ approach, focus, and stamina in InitiaLit lessons.
Year 2: Evie Pickford for displaying a positive attitude towards her learning, always trying her best and being helpful to her classmates.
Year 5: Elsie Dyer for taking the initiative to use a dictionary to assist with narrative writing.

Year 5: Henry Bufton for outstanding skills on the basketball court at Hoop Time!

Year 6: Ada O'Brien for consistently taking the initiative to help others and volunteer regardless of the task. She always puts in her best effort and is consequently achieving excellent results.
Year 6: Finn Hawthorne for quietly achieving excellent results in all mathematics tasks. He is a valued member of Year 6, and his superb sense of humour is greatly appreciated by all.
Year 6: Kirav Patel for working hard to catch up after being away, particularly on creating solid arguments in his persuasive text.

The focus of this week’s Assembly was ‘Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.’ In the last few weeks of this term, there have been many opportunities for our students to try new activities and push their personal comfort zones - Hoop Time, leading Wellness Week activities, local sporting finals, AMEB exams, ICAS competition papers, school camps, Hockey 7s State Finals, Frozen Jr stage rehearsals etc. Our students will always be supported in being comfortable with being a little uncomfortable and trying new things.

Hockey Grand Finals

Congratulations to College Tigers and College Foxes on their Grand Final wins on Saturday. Tigers won in extra time, 1-0 over Dunkeld. Arthur Adamson scored the winning goal. Foxes had a hard-fought 2-1 win over Dunkeld. Hugo Cameron and Max Cameron scored for Foxes.

Legacy

Legacy provides support to the families of Australian Defence Force men and women who have lost their lives or health in service. Funds are raised through various methods, the most notable being the sale of special badges and other goods during "Legacy Week." Legacy badges ($2), pens, and wristbands ($3) are currently on sale at the Myrniong reception.

College Cricket season

Cricket Blast Registration NOW OPEN

College Cricket Club is once again running its highly successful Cricket Blast program in 2024. Open to children aged 4-10, this introductory cricket program is a fun-filled skill based session that kids of all abilities can enjoy in a safe and welcoming environment.

When: Thursday Afternoon from 4.00-5.00pm. The program will begin on Thursday, 17 October and finish on Thursday, 5 December.

Where: Neil MacLean Hockey Field, The Hamilton and Alexandra College.

Price: $66 per participant will cover the 8-week session and provide a Cricket Australia branded Cricket Blast pack.

CCC Under 12 Team

The 2024-25 Cricket season is coming up and the CCC is again providing opportunities for kids to participate in our great game.

We will again be entering teams in the HDCA under 12s competition and are looking at numbers. U12s is open to boys and girls in grade 3 and older, is played on Wednesday after school and training is on Tuesday after school.
