Week 2 - Mental Health Week

Last week, our school celebrated Mental Health Week, focusing on this year’s important theme of Connection. Throughout the week, students engaged in activities that highlighted the value of building and maintaining positive relationships with others, both at school and at home. We explored ways to stay connected, support each other, and create a caring, inclusive environment.

It's a great time to talk with your children about the importance of reaching out to others, being a good friend, and practicing self-care. Connecting with the people around us is key to strong mental health and overall wellbeing.

We encourage families to have these conversations at home and make the most of this special week. For resources and ideas on how to support mental health, please visit the link below. Let's continue to build a connected and supportive community!

Week 3 - Lunch Routines

We’re excited to share some important transitions happening during morning tea and lunch for our Prep and Year 2 students! Our Prep students will now be spending their break times in the Year 1/2 area, helping them get comfortable with their future space as they prepare for next year. At the same time, our Year 2 students are transitioning to the 3/4 area for eating, allowing them to build confidence and familiarity with the older year levels. These changes are designed to support a smooth transition and help students feel confident in their new environments.

 Respectful Relationships Education (RRE)

This term's RRE program will focus on two essential topics:

  • Positive Coping
  • Problem Solving

All staff members have received comprehensive training in RRE, facilitated by our Regional Staff and supported through peer proffesional development. A core group of teachers have been trained to lead further sessions for their colleagues, ensuring that RRE principles are effectively embedded into our curriculum.

House Events

This terms house events will be....

House Ball Games - Week 7

The House Sing off - Week 9

We will soon reveal which house had the most participants in the Premier’s Readers Challenge! Thank you to all students for their hard work and enthusiasm in promoting reading.

Please see below the winning photos for our Photography Competition.

Student Council

Our Student Council has been actively meeting twice a term to contribute their ideas and input into our school. They have also taken on the important task of raising funds to support our sponsor child through The Smith Family.

The Student Council sort further suggestions from our classes  on how to allocate the remaining  fundraising money. Stay tuned to see what our students will be purchasing to make a positive impact!

The Student Council were involved in rejuvenating our school, planting a number of shrubs and trees around the school.

News from Chappy Sonia

Thank you to Chappy Sonia for facilitaing Operation Christmas and thank you to all the families who generously contributed to this.

SPORT

In sport this term selected students have been involved in Aquathlon training in readiness for the DDSS Trial in Dalby on the 25th of October. This program has a twofold purpose. We obviously want our students to compete in an event where they can test themselves against their peers in a competitive environment, but we also want our students to jump out of their safety zone and test themselves against their greatest competitor - themselves. For some it has been a first and they have genuinely surprised themselves with what they are capable of doing if they set their minds to it. I would also like to thank our two mentor athletes, Annabel Carter and Ivy Griffiths, who have made the commitment to come down and help the athletes who are new to Aquathlon to prepare themselves. Great work girls and much appreciated. Great stuff and good luck to those competitors who will be selected in the team. Notes will go out on Monday for those selected.

Our school would like to congratulate Annabel Carter on her wonderful achievements as a member of the Darling Downs School Sport 10-12 Years Track and Field Team. Annabel was named as one of the captains of the team. A great honour and very well deserved. Annabel finished competing in Brisbane last week. She ran a personal best in the semi final of the 100m and finished 5th in the combined event - 100m, 800m, Long Jump and Shotput.

Well done Annabel. You are a great role model for all students at our school. You are a credit to your family and our community. Well done.

I would also like to wish Saxon Hamilton the best of luck when he heads off to represent Darling Downs School Sport in the 10-12 Years Cricket team this week. I am sure he will be an asset to the team and represent our school and community with pride.

Here's to a GREAT Term 4.

Mr Mac.
