From the Leadership Team

Welcome to Term 4

Dear families,

We hope you had a restful break with your children and are ready for another great term of learning at Modbury School P-6. We have another jammed-packed term, filled with lots of exciting things happening across our school.

Please enjoy reading through the newsletter and learning about what is coming up this term.

World Teachers Day

Next Friday - 25/10/24, we celebrate World Teacher's Day. Modbury School P-6 is so fortunate to have a such a dedicated and caring teaching staff, who work incredibly hard in providing rich learning opportunities for our students. World Teacher's Day is a formal opportunity to say 'THANK YOU' to your child's teacher/s for their hard work, dedication and commitment to education and supporting our children and young people.

World Teachers’ Day honours the dedication, hard work, and passion of teachers who play a crucial role in shaping the minds and futures of our children.

World Teachers' Day is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the incredible work teachers do every day. By celebrating this day and showing our appreciation, we can help create a supportive and encouraging environment that allows teachers to thrive and continue making a positive impact on our children's lives. Let's celebrate our teachers!

Pastoral Care Worker

Please welcome Cameron Rundle - our new Pastoral Care Worker (PCW) who joined us this term. Cam will be working Wednesdays and Thursday this term as part of the National Student Wellbeing Program (NSWP). Late 2023, I applied for a grant for our school to have access to a PCW, which was successful.

The National Student Wellbeing Program aims to support schools to promote the wellbeing of students. The program provides funds that contribute to the delivery of pastoral care or wellbeing support services in the schools. We are super excited to have Cam on board and working within our community.

At our school the PCW Worker predominantly works with students and classes. Cam will be available to speak to students. They may see him in the yard or in the classroom when he visits to work with students. Individual visits can be arranged following parental consent. Students, parents or teachers may initiate this option. If you would like to connect your child with Cam, please make a time to pop in and see Sara.

Please see an introduction note from Cam below:

Hey! My name is Cameron Rundle. I am the new Pastoral Care Worker (PCW) here at Modbury School. I am from the Schools Ministry Group, where our goal is to see young people and school communities discover purpose, value and hope.

I am a big fan of Basketball and Handball. I will be here at school on Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you see me around, please come and say hi!

I am keen to get to know everyone! You can contact at me Cameron.1578@mysmg.net.au or through the Front Office at (08) 8264 2027

Can you help our garden?

We are collecting plastic 2L milk containers (with their lid) as part of an exciting Enterprise opportunity next year. We would love it if you could rinse out your containers and bring them into the Front Office for us.

Each casual day we have been collecting gold coin donations. These have been put towards our community garden- which we would love to see grow in 2025. We would love to have any donations of packets of seeds, seedlings, herbs or plants etc. for our children to plant.

Save the Date - End-of-Year Concert

Save the date - Tuesday Week 7 - 26/11 is our End of Year Concert and our 2024 theme is 'Movies'. More information regarding the End of Year Concert will be sent out soon.

Thank you to our staff who have already begun working on this event.

Staffing Update

We wish to extend our congratulations to Kirsty Brumby, Deputy Principal for Modbury School P-6, currently Acting Principal for Athelstone School, on her appointment to the Principal position at Two Wells Primary School for the next 5 years.

This is a very exciting opportunity for Kirsty and we wish her every success in her new role. We thank her for her commitment and dedication to Modbury School P-6.

Parent Survey results

Thank you to the parents who completed the recent Department Parent Survey. We are very happy with the results and will use this information to inform future school planning.

Right to Disconnect

As a result of the recent Enterprise Agreement, the Department for Education has outlined its commitment to minimising digital communication with teachers to ensure an appropriate work/life balance. Teachers are encouraged to disconnect from digital technologies and communications while taking rest time, weekends, and leave. Please see the attached information.

Parents and Friends Committee

Are you interested in joining our Parents and Friends Committee?  At Modbury School P-6, our Parents and Friends Committee plays a vital role in creating a vibrant and supportive school community. This wonderful group of volunteers helps organise events, fundraisers, and activities that directly benefit our students and enrich their learning experience. Joining the Parents and Friends Committee is a fantastic way to get involved, make new friends, and contribute to our school’s success.

We warmly invite all parents and caregivers to consider joining – your time and talents, no matter how big or small, can make a real difference.

We are running an Induction Meeting next Friday 25/10 at 9.15am in the staffroom and would love to see you there. Please let Kym know if you would like to attend by Wednesday 23/10, so we can have your goodie bag ready and information pack.
