In the Classroom
and out and about!
We are excited to share highlights from an inspiring excursion that took place during Week 1 of Term 4! A group of our high-achieving students had the opportunity to visit the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne, where they delved into the fascinating world of television and news production.
A Day of Discovery at ACMI
During this immersive experience, students participated in the Kids News program, where they learned about the process of creating news segments for television. The day was filled with hands-on activities that showcased the various elements involved in news production, from scripting to filming.
The students explored how news stories are developed and the importance of journalistic integrity. They had the chance to create their own news reports, working collaboratively to research, script, and present their stories. This engaging format not only enhanced their understanding of media but also fostered teamwork and creativity.
In addition to the Kids News program, students toured ACMI’s interactive exhibits, gaining insights into the history of television and film in Australia. They learned about the evolution of technology in media and how it shapes the way we consume information today. This experience allowed students to appreciate the behind-the-scenes efforts that go into producing the content they enjoy.
This excursion was not only an educational journey but also a chance for our students to ignite their passion for storytelling and media. Many expressed newfound interests in journalism, film production, and other creative industries. We believe that experiences like this are vital in helping our students discover their unique talents.
On Thursday 17th October, we welcomed Andrew Wegner, a passionate wildlife educator, who brought along a variety of fascinating animals and shared his expertise on ecosystems and wildlife.
Andrew captivated our students with his engaging presentation, highlighting the intricate relationships within ecosystems. Through lively discussions, he explained how different animals, plants, and their environments interact to create a balanced ecosystem.
Meet the Animals!
One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for students to meet some amazing animals up close. Andrew introduced us to various species, including reptiles, insects, and mammals, emphasizing their unique adaptations and roles in their habitats. The students were thrilled to touch and observe these creatures, fostering a deeper appreciation for wildlife and conservation.
We want to extend our thanks to Andrew Wegner for his engaging presentation and for inspiring our students with his love for wildlife. The feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing excitement about what they learned and their newfound interest in nature.
