Mathematics

Number & Algebra   I   Measurement & Geometry   I   Statistics & Probability

The learning focus areas for Number and Algebra will be decimals and the order of operations. Students will begin the term focusing on decimals. They will make links to fractions and decimals e.g.1/10 = 0.1, 1/100 = 0.01, & 1/1000 = 0.001 then learn about converting fractions to decimals and percentages. They will revise the 4 processes and explore how to solve problems including decimals or using money.

Furthermore, students will explore the order of operations-BODMAS and algebra. They will apply their knowledge and demonstrate their mathematical reasoning when solving open ended questions.

For Measurement and Geometry, the learning focus areas will be the properties of 2D shapes, transformation (flip, slide, rotate),  3D Shapes - nets, vertices, edges & faces, volume and then mapping.

Students will review Statistics and Probability concepts such as the language of chance, probabilities that range from 0 to 1 and the representation of data. They will conduct chance experiments and will learn how to represent outcomes as a fraction or a decimal.
