Pirates vs Mermaids
Well, it all came together in the end!!
And that was in no small part due to the efforts of everyone involved. All of the teachers devoted time to helping children learn lines, finding time for singing and acting practice, helping to build props and choreograph dances. Some teachers devoted more of their time to prop creation and costuming than others (I won’t mention names, Mrs Thomsen) and some teaching assistants showed more creative genius with set creation than could ever have been imagined (Miss O’Sullivan).
While all of these efforts resulted in a great visual spectacle it would not have taken place without the support of all the parents who ensured that their children were supplied with their costumes. You no doubt listened intently to countless lines being rehearsed at home and children humming and singing songs all evening long. The extra touches such as the treasure chest and other items also made all of the difference. For your support, we are most grateful.
The colour and visual appeal of the performance was further enhanced by the makeup talents of Genevieve Guest and Erin Nurthen, ably assisted by Bec Mackay. I don’t think I have ever witnessed more detailed and precise face painting. If your present careers don’t work out you now know you have something to fall back on, very impressive! Let’s not forget Mrs McCallum who did a great job on the pirates, those scars looked gruesome.
Not only did Erin act as a makeup artist but she also filmed the extravaganza. I can’t wait to watch it from a front view, rather than from behind the curtains.
Finally, the students need the largest round of applause of all. Without their commitment to learning their lines, the songs and the choreography and their willingness to devote themselves to the performance it would not have been the success that it was. I genuinely believe that the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I didn’t hear any complaints about giving up play times or as kindergarten said “having singing practice every single day.” Our “chorus” of pirates and mermaids were very patient while our older students refined the delivery of their lines.
I know the thing that our budding actors and actresses loved the most was performing in front of an audience of their family and friends.
Thank you for making all of this possible.
