Electives
This term students in the senior team have once again been taking part in our electives program. These activities offer students the chance to engage in activities that support their interests outside of the classroom such as art and crafts, sewing, coding, sports and cooking.
In sewing, students have enjoyed working with Miss L to develop their sewing techniques as they design and create hair scrunchies using elastic fabric and cotton. Miss Muir's arts and craft group have turned their hands to stain glassed window designs which they have loved designing. Miss Vinci's little chefs have been pumping out tasty creations ranging from mini pizzas to delectable ice cream sundaes. Mr Carlyle and Mr Baker have put our sports group through their paces with tabloid sports offering a range of hybrid games that are adapted from traditional sports skills such as catching and throwing and dynamic games including star wars, capture the flag, and dodgeball. Mr Petersen's tech group have used laptops to work on 3D animation, coding and design using programs such as Tinkercad and Scratch.
We have loved working with your children in these different areas and are confident our Grade 6's will find this supporting their transition to secondary school.
MCG and Melbourne Sports Museum Excursion
Date: Monday 16th September
Just a friendly reminder that our excursion is coming up. Please be sure to jump on Xuno to complete permission forms and payments.
To support and celebrate our Term 3 Inquiry studies of sport, culture and the history of the Olympics, students from 5/6L, 5/6M and 5/6P will be visiting the home of the 1956 Olympics, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). On the day, students will participate in a guided 60-minute tour of the famous stadium, where students will gain an insight into Melbourne’s sporting culture as they hear from proud MCC volunteers. Additionally, students will also visit the Australian Sports Museum, which is a self-guided experience full of interaction and exploration.
Middle Years Team
What a great day we had on Thursday this week for Book Week and Grandparents/Special Friend’s morning! We were so thrilled to see all our students in their fabulous costumes and get to share this day with their special visitors. The parade was lots of fun and we loved getting to share our classrooms with our guests and work on our special book boxes. Thank you to everyone who came and shared in this special time with us. It was so wonderful to hear about our visitor’s favourite childhood books and see how the students were inspired by working together on this activity.
Staff in the Middle Years Team dressed up as characters from our class novel, Matilda by Roald Dahl; Mr, Wormwood, Mrs. Wormwood, and the Trunchball - and Matilda herself made an appearance, also.
Middle Years Team are excitedly counting down to Grade 3/4 Camp! Students have made requests for cabin and activity groups, and teachers are working on groupings. Go onto Sunnystones Camp website if you would like to check out facilities and activities they offer; https://www.sunnystones.com.au/school-camp-home-page
Our team assembly is coming up next week (Friday 30th August). This is the same day as the PFG run Father's Day Stall. Families are invited to come and attend the assembly, in the gym, starting at about 2:30 p.m. Get ready to learn some fascinating 'Dad facts' and maybe a 'Dad joke' or two. 😊👍
Junior Years
In the Prep to 2 team we have been looking at Australian animals as part of our Inquiry unit. Learning lots about the animals that we have here in Australia and becoming experts before our upcoming visit to the Ballarat Wildlife Park. The kids are so excited for this excursion and we look forward to sharing back to families how it all goes.
We are so excited that Spring is finally here! The P-2s have loved watching the changes in the gardens and the daffodils that were planted way back in May have finally bloomed!
The 1/2s have also been able to get back out into the garden and see the changes that have taken place over Winter. Lots of the plants have died off but it's very exciting to see that there are some plants that have thrived. In the coming weeks the 1/2s will be planting new seeds and plants in and are looking forward to watching what changes occur.
The 1/2s are also still in need of volunteers for their Gardening lessons. If you or anyone that you know might be interested in volunteering, please get in contact with Miss Harney, Mrs G or Mr M. See the PDF link below for more information.
