Year 11 – Revision reminders

We wish all of Year 11 the best as they enter their first senior examination period. While this time may be nerve-racking, ensure you properly prepare for your exams. HSIE teachers have provided revision materials and multiple lessons to help you prepare for the examination period. Make sure you are actively creating and reviewing study notes every evening, and more importantly, practicing your written responses. Here are some simple tips that can be applied to each HSIE subject:

  • Organise study notes using the syllabus dot points, ensuring key concepts and examples are clearly outlined.
  • Practice writing responses (short, medium, and extended) using structured formats like PEEL and ALARM to help build the depth and clarity within your answers.
  • Write responses first with open book, then progress to closed book writing to reinforce your understanding.
  • Create exam conditions by practicing responses under timed conditions to improve time management and efficiency.
  • Review past papers and sample responses to familiarise yourself with question types and marking criteria.
  • Use active recall and self-testing, revisiting and refining your notes to ensure understanding and long-term retention.
  • Check in with your teacher to ensure you are on the right track!

Revising key terms and using them in relevant context is an important study routine too! Here is Year 12 Modern matching key terminology with their definitions as a study tool:

Specific Class Updates

Year 12 Modern History Excursion:

Year 12 Modern History and Mrs Fascioli were lucky enough to visit the Sydney Holocaust Museum in Week 8. They were able to hear from a holocaust survivor called Greta, as well as sit in syllabus specific study lectures where they were able to look at artifacts from Nazi Germany. Students were able to explore the Museum after their session.

Year 11 – Trench Warfare Lesson:

Year 11 showed their understanding of allied and enemy trench systems in Week 6.  They also had the chance to try bullied beef and fruit jams with hardtack (Sao’s) to really put themselves in the shoes of WWI Western Front soldiers.

 Year 12 Business Services VET:

Students recently had observations where they were to show Miss Hay how to effectively use systems in a business setting. Students organised filing, used industry photocopiers and laminators as well as shredding paper!
