Year 12 worked hard over their HSC course, and now their 13 years of schooling have ended. Many will sit their HSC examinations, and the English faculty wishes them all the best. Maintaining a regular study routine, time with family, and self-reflection is the best way to manage the pressure and stress of the upcoming HSC period.
Year 11 are rapidly approaching their last year of high school and in English Studies they have been studying the unit ‘We Are Australians’. This unit provides the opportunity to grow and reflect on what it means to be an Australian and how we as a society engage with each other. Students have been studying the film ‘Looking for Alibrandi’ which is considered a classic Australian film.
Year 10 have completed their exams and in English they did well to analyse literature conveys meaning to changing audiences. Students drew upon their knowledge of comprehension and in-depth study of a novel to demonstrate their mastery of course content and skills.
The pattern of study for Years 7, 8, and 9 this Term has been building on skills to analyse and appreciate quality texts. In Year 7 they have deep dived into visual literacy to better understand how texts convey meaning. In Year 8 this understanding is expanded to consider life lessons, that endure beyond the text’s original context. Their novel or film study was assessed in an analytical response. Year 9 consolidated their learning in Years 7 and 8 by considering the universal and enduring lessons found in Shakespearean drama. Students have enjoyed their study of ‘Macbeth’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and engaged with relevant themes.
From all of us in the English faculty, enjoy the upcoming holidays, and see you all next Term ready to learn!
