P&C News

Tuesday night 17th September 2024 we held our Week 9 P&C meeting. We welcomed another new face to the meeting and we extend this welcome to many more new faces in the coming meetings.

Firstly on the agenda was Mr Johnston (HT Teaching and Learning).

Mr Johnston spoke to us about the use of ALARM at Camden HS. He went through what specific things to look out for in an assessment task from the student perspective and what strategies can be used to aim to get higher marks.

The main thing here is to not only look at what the task is, but also to look at the Marking Criteria as this shows where marks will be awarded. We also went through Essay Structure and paragraph construction.

This was a great explanation about what the teachers go through with the students and how we, as parents can help our children.

The run-down of things happening at Camden High, as follows:

  • Year 12 are about to finish their schooling journey. Next week is their Formal and Graduation ceremony. For this, we wish them the best for their future!
  • Updates from previous requests:
    • Newsletter can be found on the school website via link
    • Yeronga – continue to email them and ‘cc” the school in as well
    • More supervision has been allocated to ensure better access to bathrooms during break times for students.

We as a P&C sent letters to the Mayor of Camden and the Local member, Sally Quinnell, with the traffic surveys that were undertaken and as yet, we are awaiting a further response.

In the mean time, the phasing of the lights at Burragorang Rd / Cawdor Rd have been adjusted during school pick up times to allow a better flow of traffic.

What we as parents can do to help the situation:

  • Move to the front of the kiss and drop zone to keep traffic flowing
  • Don’t park on the grass strip in front of the kiss and drop zone
  • Don’t allow students to get out of the car whilst waiting in the traffic queue
  • Speak with your child about safely crossing the road if it is absolutely necessary to cross the road

Please feel free to contact us if there is anything that you would like us to raise with the school, or just want to learn about the P&C. Or better yet, come to a meeting!
