Support Faculty Snapshot
Stage 4
The Support Unit has restarted a community access program where students head into Camden and practise a variety of academic, living and social skills. We would like to thank all the community members who have welcomed us. Recently, we visited the Camden Museum and were given a personalised tour by volunteers, we visited Camden Cycles to watch skilful hands working and finished with a visit to helloworld travel who told us about what a travel agent does and were gifted some brochures. Look out for us
wearing blue and gold with pride.
For sport the stage 4 students have been enjoying various sporting activities, the students have been getting to know different sports such as soccer, beach sports, NRL clinic, walking and developing skills to go with these sports. This rotation we have students going bowling and to the Wollondilly Leisure Centre. The students are having a great time.
In Music the students have been working on their music assessments which includes playing a blues piece in pairs. The students have been enjoying this and have been doing a fantastic job of sharing roles and remembering the notes they are playing.
In Stage 4 Technology, we’re excited to kick off our next topic: Engineering! This term, we’ll dive into the world of solar-powered cars, exploring how renewable energy can power vehicles of the future. Students will design, build, and test their own solar car models, learning the principles of sustainability, mechanics, and innovation.
In Stage 4 Geography, students have been exploring the fascinating topic of landscapes and landforms throughout the term. They’ve been investigating the causes and impacts of various geomorphic hazards, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions. As the term progresses, students will complete their assignment, due in Week 10, where they’ll apply their research and understanding to showcase their insights into these geographical landforms and processes. We also had a great time at our excursion to the Mount Annan Botanical Gardens. Please see stage 5 for more information.
Stage 5
Stage 5 Science students participated in a Radiation Conduction experiment. The students used a thermometer to measure the conduction intervals of transmission, reflection and absorption of heat radiation in a white, black and silver bottle and box.
Stage 5 HSIE students made observations about the potential of wind power generation when flying kites. The wind gusts were up to 35knots. Students demonstrated communication and teamwork as their navigated the air space.
Stage 5 Visual Arts students participated in creating a cane and paper mâché insect sculpture. Students used 3-dimensional building skills and learning about scaling and proportion from a researched insect of their choice. They constructed and pained their insect as per their sketch and colour plan.
Stage 4&5 HSIE Excursion. At the Mt Annan Botanical Gardens Education Centre students participated in field study. Under laboratory conditions students investigated the difference between two types of soil using water, PH level testing and using a microscope. They used geographical methods to record details and observations. Students had the opportunity to enter the protected Cumberland Plain Woodlands and conducted a mock debate about the issues related to development in sites like this one.
Stage 5 English students are reading a modern day 'no-mercy' rendition of Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy about the famous star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. As we listen and read, we are identifying all the literary components that come together to make a great play! Looking forward to consolidation of the play when we watch a movie version of the drama towards the end of the term, with popcorn of course!
Stage 6
We would like to take this opportunity to recognise and celebrate our Support Faculty year 12 students as their schooling at Camden High School comes to an end at the end of this term.
Year 12 Support Faculty students are like the superheroes of our faculty! These young dynamos aren't just nailing their studies; they're also shaping the atmosphere of our faculty, ensuring it's a place where everyone can bloom and sparkle.
Looking into the crystal ball, we see these superstars reaching for even greater heights with the skills and adventures they've gathered here. Their adventure is just beginning, and we're over the moon to have played a part in their incredible growth journey!
We wish our fabulous year 12 support faculty students all the luck in the world for their exciting adventures ahead!
Extra/whole Faculty
Boccia State Finals
Recently, our school boccia team went to Olympic Park to compete in the State finals. On the day, we travelled with Mt Annan HS making new friends and beginning a new showdown we hope to see play out into the future. Matt, Kyle, Joseph and Brandon won 3 out of the 5 pool matches, representing CHS with pride and great sportsmanship. Fittingly, our playoff match was against our crosstown rivals Mt Annan HS who narrowly beat us (again). The boys finished equal 15th out of more than 200 teams who took part. The boys would like to thank School Chaplain Pete Lewis for his generosity in supporting us across the day.
