A Word from the Principal

Ms Kylie Campbell

A warm welcome to our community

Hello everyone and welcome to the last week of term 3.  This year really does appear to be flying!

State School Spectacular

I had the honour and privilege to attend the 2024 Victorian State School Spectacular as the principal of our incredible school. Our choir participated in the mass choir and they performed wonderfully on the night.  The crowd was elated with the electric performances and were amazed at the talent that Victorian students have.  The commitment from our Weeden Heights PS choir was terrific, attending weekly rehearsals along with rehearsals at the town hall and two days of dress rehearsals at John Cain arena to prepare for the big event.

I would sincerely like to thank Mrs Phillips for all of her work with the choir and the fabulous parents who assisted with the supervision on the train and during rehearsals.  Thank you so much!  It really did allow our students to experience a professional performance.

Hopefully you have all been able to see some of the performances up on Facebook and Instagram.  Channel 7 will telecast highlights of the show on Saturday 14 December. Many of our students said the camera was on them during the performance so fingers crossed we see our students on TV.

Well done choir!

Opening of the outdoor learning space

Finally we are able to open the outdoor space for students to this week.  Last week, planter boxes were installed at the top of the space to create a safe barrier for students.  We do have to select some lovely plants that will appreciate the sun and shade and these will be added as soon as possible.  The space is a quiet sitting space which will be great for performances. Many students have made great use of the space this week so far.  I hope that you have taken the opportunity to go and have a look.  It looks awesome.

SRC Stalls

Congratulations to the SRC who ran an incredible market for all of the students at Weeden Heights PS on Wednesday.  The smiles on the faces were so rewarding and students purchased homemade goodies, played games, participated in a guessing competition and a mural for the school.  Thanks Miss Walls and the SRC for putting on this event!

Works at school over the holidays

Over the holidays we are having many projects completed which is exciting.  These are not a part of the capital works but one is to repair some of the mess that was left after the build. The entrance of the school is having a pebble mix put over the concrete to cover the horrible patchwork that we were left with. It will make the entrance look more like an entrance.  We are also getting a new front fence which is safer and will make the school look more attractive.  I have requested a much wider warm and welcoming front gate so there will be no more trying to squeeze through a single pedestrian gate! There will be a few other things happening eg a surprise for grades 4 and 5 starting soon so I can’t tell you about that yet.

Footy Day

Just a reminder that on Friday we are getting into the Aussie Rules footy finals spirit by dressing in our teams’ favourite colours.  There is a special lunch for those who have ordered and everyone will participate in the football workshops and of course the annual footy colours parade.  If students don’t support a team, then they are welcome to come in their soccer colours, netball colours or as an umpire.  We will all be singing the football theme songs so have a little practise at home!

A special thank you to Kerryn and Cindy who along with myself will be cooking and serving hotdogs and pies to the whole school.  We have a fabulous admin team!

Planning  for 2025

Preparations for 2025 are well underway and I continue to need your support so that the I can make the best decisions for the school.

If you intend leaving Weeden Heights and your children will be starting at another school next year, can you please let me know, in writing, so that we can make the necessary adjustments to our calculations and budgets. Please do not leave it to the last minute to indicate your intentions as it does have a profound effect on the proposed budget.   Having accurate student enrolments is critical in establishing a sound  and balanced budget.

End of Term 3

The last day of term 3 is Friday 20 September and officially school will finish at 2.30pm.  We will all be in our footy colours.  Please remember that if you can’t pick your child up at 2.30pm then please book them in for OSHC in our hall.

Parents are of course welcome to attend the assembly that will commence at 2.10pm.    There will be several end of term special awards and presentations.

Please take care, stay safe and enjoy your holiday break.

Until next time……

Kylie Campbell
