Term 3 Wrap Up!

After a very busy term jampacked with sports, SAC’s and everything in-between we have made it to the end of Term 3!

Our Year 12's are almost at the finish line! Use the break as a chance to rest, recuperate and begin your revision and exam preparation. Remember to look back at the Elevate Education study Skills resources from earlier in the year, have a plan and utilise your teachers! But most of all enjoy these last few weeks of your time at school!

Guest Speakers

On Tuesday students listened to Bec Cossar “VRC Contracting Pty Ltd” and Emily their worker from Canada. Both Bec and Emily provided students with their successful and positive experience with “IRE Agricultural Worldwide Australia”. It was very insightful to hear about how the program assists both the farmers and employees to travel within the Ag industry.

https://www.ireaustralia.com.au/

Here is the website of the organisation Viv and Bec used to source their international workers. Cossar’s have had four workers over 7 years, with their first coming back for a second year and now Emily who has just started her third year with them. Bec really likes the way the IRE screens applicants and tries to match them with farms that align with their geographical and industry preferences. Bec recommends them to other farmers and would have no issues going through them if one of our boys were keen.

IRE have just launched a new website and now have a specific section dedicated to outbound placements for Australians looking to work overseas, and it turns out that they aren’t just for agriculture workers. IRE find placements in other industries too.

Today, NCLLEN organised two amazing guest speakers via WebEx from Melbourne.

Jess MacDonald from Zoo's Victoria went into great detail about her pathway to becoming a Zoo Keeper. First trying to studying Animal Science at University but realising this learning style wasn’t for her. She continued to gather a wealth of voluntary experiences caring for animals before gaining her employment with Melbourne Zoo. Take away message was never give up on your passion and desire to work at a particular place. Continue to volunteer and gain experiences until the opening comes.

Naresh Prasad of Victoria Police was very engaging explaining to students all the Pros and Cons of working in a challenging environment. Naresh also went to university straight after school to study Science. He wasn’t certain on what career he wanted post school and encouraged others to take a GAP Year if they are unsure. Naresh was a manager of a phone company before applying for the Police Force. An interesting journey prior to realising his passions to protect our society. Now a Detective with ambitions to keep progressing through the ranks.
