Foundation (Prep)

English

We have been practising our reading daily and revising the sounds that we introduced this term. Each week, students have participated in reading group activities and complete related book response tasks.

Our writing lessons have focused on the structure of a complete sentence. Students are encouraged to start their sentence with a capital letter and finish with either a full stop, a question mark or an exclamation mark. Each week, students are practising reflecting on an event that has already happened and are attempting writing a recount of that event. Many of the children wanted to write about Father's Day and everyone had a go at writing a term reflection.

We hope all of our families enjoyed celebrating Father's Day with their loved ones. A big thank you to all of the helpers that prepared a yummy breakfast before school and to all of those that made it possible for us to go shopping at the Father's Day Stall. In our writing lessons, the children put a lot of effort into creating special cards and writing thoughtful messages.

Maths

In Maths we have been learning about location and direction. Students have practised describing the position and location of themselves and other objects in a variety of settings. We have talked about the language we can use to describe position, such as: under, above, between, on, in, etc. Some of the activities we have enjoyed have included:

  • Following the instructions to draw a garden,
  • Following Rosie's walk around the farm (based on the book Rosie's Walk, by Pat Hutchins),
  • Photographing ourselves in different positions in the school playground and then making a class big book, and
  • Creating treasure maps and describing the position of the landmarks.

Swimming

I am so proud of the way the Prep students embraced their swimming program. I've watched the children show courage, persistence, resilience and respect. The students quickly overcame their initial nerves and have tried their best throughout their lessons. Some children had to adapt to changing groups, adjust to different swim teachers and manage if they'd forgotten belongings. We spoke often about the importance of showing respect to the people who were helping us and I was impressed with everyone's conduct with the bus drivers and swim teachers. Great job, Prep C!

I hope everyone has a great break over the school holidays and feels rejuvenated for Term 4.

Enjoy!
