What's happening in the Performing Arts room?
This term it is very noisy in the Performing Arts room as each year level begins working with different instruments.
In Prep we started the term recapping our learning abut rhythms and keeping a steady beat, and used this knowledge to rehearse and perform a short body percussion sequence in groups. This performance was filmed for their portfolios.
This week we began exploring how we can create music using instruments and the sounds they make. First up - claves/rhythm sticks.
In Grade One and Two we explored how to use instruments to create rhythms that match different songs. So far we have played the maracas and the claves/rhythm sticks. We looked at the sounds these instruments make and how we can make them, then worked in small groups to add rhythms to lots of different songs.
In Grade Threes and Fours we are learning to play the glockenspiels and xylophones. We are using our music theory from last term to help us play 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' as a class. It's challenging to all play at the same tempo, but we're working very hard on this. This week we also began working in small groups to rehearse a short piece of music that we will be filming for our portfolios.
In Grade Fives and Sixes we are learning to play the glockenspiels and xylophones. We are using our music theory from last term to help us play 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' as a class. Some parts are a little bit challenging, but everyone is very determined to get it right. We also had a go at playing other pieces of music in small groups, with a focus on maintaining tempo as a group.
Each week, four students from across the school are acknowledged as our Performers of the Week, celebrating their talent and effort in their lessons.
