Sharing Our God-Given Talents
In the Gospel of Matthew (25:14–30), Jesus tells the Parable of the Talents, where a master entrusts his servants with varying amounts of wealth before leaving on a journey. Upon his return, he praises those who used and multiplied what they were given, but rebukes the one who buried his talent out of fear. This parable reminds us that our gifts are meant to be used, not hidden, and that we honour God by striving to be our best selves.
At our College, we are inspired by the legacy of Blessed Edmund Rice and the Christian Brothers, who believed deeply in the potential of every student. They encouraged young men to pursue excellence, not for personal glory, but to serve others and build a better world. Their vision was rooted in faith, compassion, and the belief that education should empower students to discover and share their unique talents.
This message resonates strongly during R U OK? Day, a time when we are reminded that success is not just about achievement, but also about wellbeing, connection, and care. Sharing our talents includes being present for others, listening with empathy, and offering support when someone is struggling. Sometimes, the most powerful gift we can offer is simply asking, “Are you OK?”
As we reflect on our own talents, whether in music, sport, leadership, academics, or kindness, let us remember that these gifts are not ours to keep. They are meant to be shared, nurtured, and used to uplift others.
Let us strive to be the kind of community where everyone feels seen, valued, and encouraged to grow.
May we continue to live with purpose, courage, and compassion, using our talents to make a difference in the lives of others.

Happiness
May, today, there be peace within you.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received,
and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing that you are a child of God.
Let His presence settle into your bones,
and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, and to bask in the sun.
It is there for each and every one of you.

Musicians at the Canonisation Mass
In a moment of reverence and reflection, our student musicians contributed to the Canonisation Mass with grace and sensitivity. Their music elevated the spiritual atmosphere and demonstrated the power of art to connect, inspire, and honour sacred traditions. It was a proud moment for our school to be represented with such dignity and talent.
These events have highlighted the incredible depth of talent within our student body. Whether performing on stage, in the streets, or in sacred spaces, our students continue to inspire us with their creativity, commitment, and courage.
To all our performers, thank you for sharing your gifts with us. You make our community richer, stronger, and more beautiful.
Celebrating Excellence at the Annual Cocurricular Colours Award Assembly
On Monday 8 September, we proudly hosted the Annual Cocurricular Colours Award Assembly, a special occasion to honour the outstanding achievements of our students across a wide range of cocurricular activities.
We extend our warmest congratulations to all recipients of Silver and Gold Awards. These honours reflect not only talent, but also dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence. Whether in sport, music, drama, debating, each award represents countless hours of effort and a deep passion for growth.
A special acknowledgment goes to our major award recipients, who should be exceptionally proud of their achievements in 2025. Their success in their chosen cocurricular fields stands as an inspiration to their peers and a testament to what can be accomplished through hard work and heart.
We also wish to thank Mr Matt Stearn for his outstanding organisation of the event. His attention to detail and commitment to celebrating student achievement ensured the assembly was both meaningful and memorable. Our gratitude also goes to Mrs Dodd for her excellent administration and support of Mr Stearn. Her behind the scenes work helped bring the event to life.
Above all, we celebrate the way our students have shared their God-given talents with our community. Their contributions enrich our College culture and remind us of the importance of striving to be our best, not only for ourselves but for others.
A full list of the recipients of these awards will be presented in next week's Woodchatta.
Congratulations to all involved.
RUOK? Day – A Powerful Reminder to Check In
At our College assembly and part of our Waterford Wednesday, the College community came together to mark RUOK? Day, a national day of action that reminds us all to check in with those around us and ask a simple but powerful question: “Are you OK?”
In an all boys environment, where emotional expression can sometimes be overlooked or misunderstood, this day holds particular significance. It encourages our young men to break down barriers, to speak up when they’re struggling, and to look out for their mates. It reminds us that strength is not just physical it is also found in vulnerability, empathy, and connection.
Throughout the day, students engaged in meaningful conversations, activities, and reflections that reinforced the importance of mental health and peer support. The message was clear: you don’t need to be an expert to help, just a good friend and a good listener.
We were especially honoured to welcome back Michael Hooper, who returned to the College for the first time since graduating in 2009. His presence was deeply appreciated, and his wise words surrounding the importance of asking “RUOK?” resonated with many of our students. Michael’s remarkable career journey stands as a powerful example of resilience, leadership, and purpose an inspiration for our future graduates.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our student leaders, whose energy, compassion, and initiative helped shape the day into something truly impactful. Your leadership continues to inspire your peers and set the tone for a culture of care and courage.
We also sincerely thank Mr Ticli and Mr Gillogly for their unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of our students and staff. Their dedication to creating a safe, supportive environment ensures that no one in our community feels alone.
As we move forward, may the spirit of RUOK? Day live on in our daily interactions. Let us keep asking, keep listening, and keep showing up for one another.
Because sometimes, a simple question can change a life.
Celebrating Father’s Day & Jersey Day – A Heartfelt Community Moment
On Friday 5 September, our College came alive with warmth, gratitude, and team spirit as we celebrated Father’s Day alongside Jersey Day. Two events that beautifully highlighted the strength of our community and the importance of connection.
We extend our sincere thanks to all the fathers, grandfathers, and significant male figures who joined us for this special occasion. One of the most touching moments of the day was witnessing sons embrace their loved ones and share what they value most in each other. These heartfelt exchanges reminded us of the deep bonds that shape our students’ lives and the importance of expressing appreciation.
We are incredibly grateful to our Parents & Friends Association and our dedicated staff who prepared breakfast for over 660 guests. Their generosity and hard work created a warm and welcoming atmosphere that set the tone for a truly memorable morning.
A special thank you to Mr Petrie for his thoughtful organisation of the Father’s Day liturgy, which was both moving and meaningful. We also acknowledge the outstanding contribution of our band and choir, whose music enriched our Eucharistic celebration and lifted the spirits of all in attendance.
We hope all fathers, grandfathers, and significant male figures had a joyful and meaningful Father’s Day. Your presence and involvement enrich our school culture and leave a lasting impact on the young men in our care.
Thank you for being part of this beautiful celebration.
Year 12 Graduation – A Time to Celebrate and Reflect
As our Year 12 students approach the final chapter of their journey at St Pius X College, preparations for Graduation Week are well underway. This milestone marks not only the end of their schooling, but also a moment of deep pride and emotion for their families, who have supported them through 13 years of education.
Throughout the term, students have been reminded that Graduation Week is a time to reflect, celebrate, and finish strong. It is essential that they remain focused, maintain positive relationships with their teachers and peers, and leave the College as proud ambassadors of the St Pius X spirit.

Wishing Year 11 Every Success in Preliminary Assessments
As Year 11 students enter the final stretch of their Preliminary Assessment period, we extend our best wishes to each of them over the next two weeks. This is a crucial time in their academic journey, as these assessments play a significant role in finalising their Preliminary grades and preparing them for the transition into the HSC course, which begins in Term 4.
These assessments are not just about results, they are an opportunity for students to demonstrate their growth, resilience, and readiness for the challenges ahead. We encourage all Year 11 students to stay focused, manage their time wisely, and seek support when needed.
As you prepare, remember the words of St John Paul II:
“Do not be afraid.
Do not be satisfied with mediocrity.
Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
Your efforts now will lay the foundation for success in Year 12. Good luck to all. May your hard work be rewarded and your confidence grow as you take this important step forward.
Outstanding Preparation Ahead of ISA Athletics Carnival
Over the past few weeks, our athletes have shown exceptional dedication and drive as they participated in a series of Athletics Invitational Carnivals. These events have served as vital stepping stones in their preparation, allowing them to sharpen their skills, build confidence, and push toward peak performance.
While many students have already achieved personal bests (PBs), others are strategically pacing themselves to reach their peak at the Annual ISA Athletics Carnival, which will take place on Tuesday 16 September. The commitment and focus shown by our athletes during training and competition have been truly inspiring.
We would like to extend our best wishes to all our athletes competing at the ISA Carnival. May your preparation lead to success, and may many of you achieve your PBs on the day. Your hard work, resilience, and team spirit are a credit to our College and a source of pride for our entire community.
