 VET Cooking Excursion to Melbourne:

We are excited to share the highlights from our recent excursion by bus to Melbourne, where our Year 11 and 12 VET Cookery students immersed themselves in the world of Vocational Education and Training (VET) Cooking on Wednesday, 10th September.

This trip provided an invaluable opportunity for students to explore various culinary operations while experiencing the vibrant culture of Melbourne.

The day began with an early departure, navigating through bumper-to-bumper traffic that started well before Calder Park. Despite the delays, the students maintained their enthusiasm and spirits high, eagerly anticipating the adventures that awaited them in the city.

Our first stop was Wonder Pies Operations in Coburg North, where students were given an insightful tour of the facility. They learned about the meticulous process of pie-making, from ingredient selection to production. The sheer volume of food prepared at Wonder Pies was astounding, leaving students amazed.

Next, we ventured to the RACV Members Club in the City were students engaged with professional chefs who shared their expertise and demonstrated techniques used in the industry. The hands-on experience allowed students to not only observe but also participate in cooking activities, which culminated in more eating.

The final destination was the iconic South Melbourne Market. Students explored the bustling market stalls filled with fresh produce, gourmet foods, and local delicacies. They experienced the variety of food available and enjoyed sampling different treats, further highlighting the abundance of culinary delights Melbourne has to offer.

Throughout the day, our students exhibited exemplary behaviour. Their enthusiasm and curiosity made a lasting impression on both our hosts and fellow visitors. The combination of educational insights and hands-on experiences made for a truly enriching day, blending learning with enjoyment.

The full experience of Melbourne was on offer including the traffic!

In conclusion, this excursion to Melbourne was a resounding success, providing our Year 11 and 12 VET Cookery students with an unforgettable experience in the realm of cooking.

We Value Your Voice – Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey:

A friendly reminder that our School is currently conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey, offered by the Department of Education. This survey is an important opportunity for you to share your thoughts and experiences to help shape the future of our school.

Your feedback gives us valuable insights into areas such as school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. By taking part, you are helping us celebrate what’s working well and identify areas where we can continue to grow and improve.

While the survey is optional, we warmly encourage you to take a few minutes to participate. Every response makes a difference, and your perspective is a vital part of building the best possible learning environment for our students.

Careers Ag Expo:

On Thursday this week, Kerang Technical High School hosted its highly anticipated Agricultural Careers Expo, and the day proved to be a raging success. The weather gods were kind, blessing us with ideal conditions to showcase the many opportunities within the farming and agricultural sector.

Students from Swan Hill College, St. Mary MacKillop College, Cohuna Secondary College, and Boort Secondary College joined us for the day, gaining valuable insights into the vast range of careers connected to agriculture.

With over 30 interactive sites on display, students experienced hands-on learning across a wide variety of areas. Highlights included shearing demonstrations, wool classing, and pregnancy testing, while others enjoyed engaging with sheep, goats, cattle, and chickens. These experiences provided a real sense of the diverse and rewarding pathways available in the industry. The virtual engine problem solving provided by ISUZI Australia was also a big hit.

The expo was not only educational but also encouraging, highlighting the many roles agriculture plays in our community and beyond.

The Ag Careers Expo was not only a showcase of opportunities in the agricultural industry but also a chance to enjoy some delicious food, thanks to the efforts of our VET Cooking class. Students took on the responsibility of running a food stall, serving up freshly cooked sausages and hamburgers to hungry visitors throughout the day.

Adding a touch of fun, the group also operated a fairy floss and popcorn station, which proved popular with both students and guests. Their contribution created a warm, welcoming atmosphere and ensured that no one left the event hungry.

A big thank you goes to the VET Cooking class for their hard work, teamwork. Their efforts not only supported the smooth running of the Expo but also highlighted the valuable skills being developed in our school’s VET program.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Mrs Grills and Mr Smith and Ms Pearce for their efforts and organisation in bringing this event together. Their hard work ensured students were provided with knowledge about potential futures in agriculture.
