Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) Update
Preps
Our Prep students explored the idea of resilience this week. We talked about what the word means “bouncing back” when things don’t go our way. Through a story called the Nervous Bear, some ball catching games and class discussion, we shared times when we kept trying, even if something was tricky or didn’t work the first time. We made Bounce-back stars in our books.
Grade 1/2
The Grade 1/2s focused on Teamwork, what the word "Bully" means and the difference between reporting and dobbing. We discussed how teamwork makes things easier when we are all on the same page, and why it’s important to speak up about big problems, but not to “dob” about small things. We know that 'Reporting' is getting someone out of trouble and 'Dobbing' is getting someone in trouble. We started by building the tallest tower out of popsicle sticks, the group who succeeded discussed not giving up even if other groups may of been ahead. We then role played different scenarios that might be dobbing, or reporting.
Attached below is some of the posters we will display in each classroom incase we forget.
Grade 3/4
This week, the Grade 3/4s explored inclusion in sport. Due to the nature of what has been going on in the news lately, the senior classes were very receptive to open and honest class discussions about all kinds of inclusion in our community. We discussed what it means to make sure everyone feels welcome on a team, no matter their background, abilities, or interests. Students took part in a classroom activity where they worked together on “team goals” and reflected on how kind and fair play makes sport more enjoyable for everyone. Check out the 3/4 display in the office area.
Grade 5/6
The Grade 5/6s also looked at inclusion in sport, with a focus on how words and actions can impact others’ sense of belonging. We discussed how athletes around the world come from different cultures, religions, families, and identities, and how that diversity makes sport stronger. Students reflected on how they can be leaders of inclusion both on and off the field. We loved seeing so many successful ambassadors in Australian sport. The 5/6s are doing a small project on some inspiring sporting/Musical idols that a in marginalised communities and still have great success, when the odds were against them.
We cant wait for more positive and open class discussions in our safe space,
Miss Tara and Miss Jess :)

Wellbeing and Mental Health at Our School!
At our school, wellbeing and mental health are key priorities. We are proud to integrate a range of evidence-based programs and supports that foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.
Our School Counsellor, Respectful Relationships program, Berry Street Education Model, Social & Emotional Learning (SEL), and our much-loved Therapy Dog Program are now central to our whole-school approach to student wellbeing.
These initiatives work together to help students build emotional awareness, resilience, and positive relationships, while equipping them with practical strategies to manage their mental health. Our therapy dog adds an extra layer of emotional support, creating a calm and nurturing presence that enhances connection and wellbeing across the school.
Together, these programs create a school culture where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. Miss Paglianiti
R U OK? Day 💛
This week we recognised R U OK? Day, a national day of action reminding everyone to check in with those around them. Students were encouraged to think about the importance of kindness, empathy, and asking simple but powerful questions like “Are you OK?”. It was a wonderful opportunity to build awareness and strengthen our supportive school community.

Berry Street Welcome Circles – Building Connection and Routine
After our insightful staff PD with Berry Street, we have taken our new learnt knowledge back into our classrooms for the start the day with a Welcome Circle – a powerful practice designed to foster connection, set a positive tone, and create a sense of belonging for every student. While the structure may vary slightly from class to class, the key components remain the same: greeting each other warmly, discussing our targeted values and class expectations, reviewing the day’s schedule, and ending with a quick, positive primer game to energize and engage. These circles not only help students feel seen and valued but also set them up for a successful day of learning. Ask your child about their favourite part of the Welcome Circle – it’s a great way to stay connected to their school day!
