ARTS AND STEM

ARTS: To celebrate the arrival of Spring, students in junior classes discussed seasonal changes and created blossom branches. Straws were used to move paint in different directions and cotton buds were used to and print petals.

ARTS: In Foundation, we are creating textured examples using different materials. We used bubble wrap to print colours and started to use marbling inks to create swirling designs. Next week, we will use bubbles and differing implements to create textured and patterned images.

STEM: Students in 3/4 are learning about the different forces in play to enable an object to fly - Thrust, Lift, Drag and Gravity. Students were (for once) permitted to fold paper airplanes in class! We discussed design features of the folded examples and measured how successfully each craft flew both, in the classroom and outside. Ned in 3/4B, used a paper plane design taught to him by his dad. This plane flew an amazing 16.35metres. It was only stopped by a brick wall! Well done, Ned.

STEM: On Monday, Year 5/6 students visited Earth Ed. in Ballarat. The 'Disaster Island' program allowed students to explore different natural disasters.

Students had to investigate 'Disaster Island's' ability to build an airport and decide where was the safest sight if a natural disaster occurred.

Students explored what our Earth is made from and through the use of VR, explored our Earth's crust, mantles and even journeyed to the Earth's core.

Lastly, using the RVRs students had to code movements to allow a robot to act as a surveyor post natural disaster in a city. They programmed the RVRs to find gas leaks, fires and to rescue people.
