The Beauty in Being One School

One of the greatest strengths of our community is the way we come together as one school. While we celebrate the uniqueness of each year group, it is in our moments of connection across ages and stages that we see the real heart of our community shine.

A wonderful example of this was our recent partnership between our Year Eight and Djinda students. Through shared activities, stories and time spent together, our students built meaningful connections that reached beyond the classroom. The experience enabled our older students to take on the role of mentors and friends, while our younger students gained confidence and joy from being part of a supportive and caring environment.

Moments like these remind us that we are not simply a collection of classes, but a united school family. Together, we learn, grow and celebrate the beauty of belonging.

Celebrating Father’s Day in Early Childhood

Yesterday, our Early Childhood Centre was filled with warmth and connection as we welcomed dads, uncles, friends and special guests to celebrate Father’s Day. The morning began with classroom activities, where our students proudly shared their learning and enjoyed time with their special visitors. Laughter, creativity and joy filled the rooms as children and guests engaged side by side.

Following the activities, families gathered for a relaxed morning tea. This was not only a chance to enjoy delicious treats but also an opportunity for our community to come together, connect and strengthen relationships.

It was a truly uplifting morning that highlighted the importance of family and community in the life of our school. We are so grateful to all who joined us and helped make the celebration such a memorable occasion.

Classroom News

We hope you enjoy reading the classroom news from each week of term in our Early Childhood and Primary School classes.

Kindergarten

The Kindergarten classes were very excited about hosting their dads and special friends for Father’s Day. We love celebrating the wonderful role models that our students have in their lives. The children really enjoyed busily making them some wonderful goodies so that they know just how much they are appreciated. This week the Kindergarten children also enjoyed a fabulous trip to the Wild Space. The tide was out, which meant that there were lots of wonderful shells, crabs, fish and other little treasures to find.

Pre-Primary

Pre-Primary has had a busy week full of visits from special people and puppies! We loved having our dads and visitors come to our classroom for a scavenger hunt on Wednesday morning. We put our visitors to work finding interesting items in the playground and taking photos on the iPads for use in our writing lessons. It was a fun morning, and we hope everyone liked their crazy socks! This week we also had an exciting visit from Sylvia’s puppies. On Tuesday afternoon Milo and Ben visited Pre-Primary, we gave them gentle strokes and marvelled at how soft their fur is and how sharp their teeth are!

Year One

The Year One students have been busy preparing for the dads’ visit to class for the Father’s Day morning. On Wednesday, the children were thrilled to present their dads with the trophy cards, superhero writing and nuts-and-bolt keyrings that they have worked so hard on. The theme for the morning was Superheroes. It was lovely to see the dads and special men seem so delighted to create their own superhero masks and mini figures, and then discover their superhero names (amongst other activities). The final surprise will be revealed tomorrow as the Year One class present their much-anticipated Year One assembly!

Year Two

The Year Two class have been busy this week creating cool keyrings and writing cards for our dads for Father’s Day! We enjoyed spending time with them at school on Wednesday, and there was some fierce competition on the day as the students and their parents created aeroplanes and measured the distance they flew along the runway. They also built tall tower creations from pegs and popsicle sticks and measured the height of their designs. Congratulations to dual winners Lucie and Wes and their dads, who had the furthest flight distance of 13.5 metres and to Athena and her dad who had the tallest building of 118cm!

Year Three

This week has seen the causes for multiple multiplication celebrations. Our work on mental strategies and times tables has produced amazing results, with two of our students only one answer away from a perfect score in their Ten-Minute Tables tests! With that knowledge in mind, our written multiplication is coming along in leaps and bounds. Some of us are even working on two-digit by two-digit multiplication! In repeated addition to all of that, we have duplicated pictures of our fathers in preparation for Father's Day.

Year Four

The Year Four students have been very excited to do their Cursive Writing Pen Licence test this week, which will allow them to use a pen instead of a pencil in class (except for Mathematics) and use cursive or running writing instead of printing most of the time. They have been continuing to work busily on their inquiry project about local government and are at the organising and presenting stage, and are getting close to completing their posters. Next, they are going to make dioramas about their topics, which will be awesome. The Year Four class also had the pleasure of joining Mrs Gouldthorpe’s Year One class for reading on Tuesday after lunch and discovered what a clever bunch of Year One students we have! They are looking forward to this collaboration with their younger counterparts every week for a while to come.

Year Five

This week in Year Five, we started to ramp up our preparations for the solar system design we will begin this week. Our plans for the market stall are well underway and we have carried out surveys with the rest of the Primary School to see what their preferences are. We will be formulating these results into graphs next week.

Year Six

Last Friday afternoon, our Year Six students took on the responsibility of designing and leading House Sport rotations. They organised and ran four rotations for students in Years Three to Five and another four rotations for students in Pre-Primary to Year Two. Thanks to the energy, organisation and teamwork of our Year Six Leaders, it was a lot of fun. We would like to thank all the Year Six students for their efforts and commend those who went above and beyond in ensuring the younger students were engaged and supported throughout the activities.

Languages

Our classroom is looking especially vibrant this week! Students’ work is proudly on display, from upper primary creative travel brochures, to our Noongar language tree, to colourful first names around the world tags, and even the mouth-watering pâtisserie flashcards from French.

Displays are more than decoration; they help students feel a real sense of pride and belonging. When they see their work celebrated on the walls, the environment itself becomes a ‘third teacher’, sparking curiosity and inspiring new learning.

We hope you enjoy spotting these beautiful displays next time you visit. Our walls are truly telling the story of our learning journey together.
