What's on in 3/4

LIFE EDUCATION

The topic for this year’s Life Education Healthy Harold incursion for the 3/4 cohort was ‘Friends and Feelings.’ The students were very engaged in this 90-minute interactive workshop. During the session, they learned to use their character strengths to support themselves and others. They participated in a range of paired and group tasks to identify their own character strengths, understand how to use them, recognize their own and others’ feelings, discuss ways to solve problems with friends and manage difficult situations, and concluded by making a commitment to a positive behaviour change. They loved interacting with Harold, laughing throughout the session.

INTEGRATED STUDIES POETRY WRITING

Our students have started to learn about global warming, climate change and sustainability in our Term 3 Integrated Studies unit. We have written many pieces to develop and demonstrate our understanding. This beautiful piece, ‘Cyclone’ was written by a Grade 4 student in response to Jackie French's book, ‘Cyclone’, about Cyclone Tracy on Christmas Eve, Darwin 1974.

LEARNING ABOUT CAPACITY

One of our maths concepts that we have been investigating is capacity. The students enjoyed some hands-on activities that involved estimating and measuring the capacity of different containers. We found that with practise, our estimates were getting really close to the actual measurement!

S.A.K.G.

The first week of school this term proved to be a wash out, but Ashley had Plan B ready to go as usual. The students enjoyed making a homemade envelope for seeds which they were able to take home. Last week, students planted seeds, weeded, prepared garden beds ready for planting, turned the compost, cleaned the chook pen and cleared the beautiful pavers to the kitchen from all the built up organic debris. In the kitchen, they made Lemon Risotto, fresh Garden Salad and Lemon, Ginger and Honey Tea. It was the perfect way to help keep us warm.
