From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents,
Welcome back to Term 3. I hope that you all had an enjoyable break, away from the routines of school life and despite the very cold and wet weather.
We have a very exciting term of learning ahead. As well as continuing learning in Literacy, Numeracy and R.E, our Inquiry units will be science based with an emphasis on chemical and physical science. Please see our Learning page for more information.
Staff News
We welcome some new staff to our school for the remainder of the year. Clare Curtis in Year 3 /4 M, Prue Lillie in 3 /4 J and Chris Hewett as our P.E Teacher. Miss Franca & Mr Reed will be Acting Deputy Principals.
Artist in Residence
Each year we have an Artist in residence program, alternating between the performing and visual arts working with a specialist in a particular field. This year is a Visual Arts year and the focus area is Stop Motion and we are working with Brett Cardwell. Brett’s website continues more information about the work that he does.
https://www.cardytoons.com.au/workshops
Stop motion is an animated filmmaking technique in which objects are physically manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames so that they will appear to exhibit independent motion or change when the series of frames is played back. Think of Shaun the Sheep.
The program will run over seven weeks and will culminate in the production of a short clip. Students will be involved in all stages of the process. The stages include story ideas, storyboarding, character design, audio, animation, post production (music, sound fx & the editing).
The finished clips will be shown to parents as part of a very special “One Night Only” event. Please keep the night of Tuesday 29th October free. More details to come.
Uniform
A reminder that students are to be in full uniform each day except for the two days each week that they are able to wear sports uniform. Black leather school shoes are to be worn with either the summer or winter uniform, not runners. Hair that is shoulder length or longer must be tied back. The only jewellery allowed is a watch, one piece of religious jewellery and simple earrings. All other bracelets and necklaces etc are not part of the uniform and students wearing these will be asked to remove them. Make up is not to be worn to school and only clear nail polish is to be worn. We ask for your support in ensuring our uniform is worn correctly.
Student Absence
During these colder months, there is a lot of illness in the community. If your child is at all unwell, please keep them at home to minimise the spread of illness, and ensure you notify us via email, Seesaw, Audiri or phone.
It is a requirement that we contact families where a student is absent and we have not received notification.
Regular attendance at school directly relates to learning success so we encourage family holidays to be taken during the school holidays to minimise long breaks away from school. If you are taking family holiday during term time, please notify us in writing so that we can follow the system requirements for holiday absences.
Children and Technology
Many parents have expressed concern and worry about their children being active online and interest in learning more about how to ensure their children are responsible and safe digital citizens. As we mentioned last term, we will spend this term focussing our ‘Something to Think About’ section on cyber safety and we encourage you to check this each week.
PL Day - Monday 19th August
On Monday 19th August there is a PL day for all staff to complete Level 2 First Aid training. There is no school for students on this day. OSHC is available on this day, bookings are essential.
School Levies & Fees
The accounts will be sent home this week. If you are experiencing difficulties please make an appointment to see me to discuss an arrangement.
'Something to Think About'
Did you know that there are parental controls that you can use to keep your children safe online? This article and clip from the safety commission website explains what options are available.
