Charlton College Year 11 and Year 12 students are provided with several different pathway options, which if chosen, allows them the opportunity to link with local businesses and learn lifelong skills for employment all whilst continuing to study at school.
This week we would like to give a special mention to Taylah Boyle, our Year 11 student who is currently completing a Head Start School Based Apprenticeship as a Cert III Hairdresser with Paper Scissors Rock (PSR) Hair Lounge, each Monday and Tuesday in Swan Hill.
Taylah completed an 8 week work experience trial early this year on Tuesdays which allowed her the ability to be confident with her decision to start an apprenticeship as a Hairdresser.
Taylah has been studying VET Hairdressing for the past 2 years at school and has assisted her mother in the family salon for many years.
Head Start is a revised model for school-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SBAT) undertaken by students which allows them to spend more time in paid work and on the job training to develop the skills that industry and employers need whilst also attending school to work toward a Year 12 qualification.
Students are supported by a Head Start Coordinator, their role is to support students to ensure they are progressing well with their schoolwork, training and employment.
During the SBAT students enrol with a training organisation to complete a Certificate II or III level qualification.
If you would like to know more about the Head Start Program, please contact your Head Start Coordinator Mary-Ann Sait on 0400 696 156 or Mary-Ann.Sait@education.vic.gov.au
Thank you Paper Scissors Rock Hair Lounge Swan Hill and Mary-Ann Sait for your partnership.
