UBS Finance Academy

Congratulations to Skarlyte Bennett & Layla Wicks who have been selected to attend the prestigious UBS Finance Academy 2024.

UBS has been hosting the UBS Finance Academy (Academy) for the past 20 years for students interested in pursuing a career in finance in Australia.

'The objective of the UBS Finance Academy is to provide an understanding of financial services and banking for senior secondary school students by giving them examples of innovative companies and practices whilst gaining an understanding of potential future opportunities.
We are looking for the best and brightest Year 11 students and while the focus is on finance, there will be opportunities to meet interesting and inspirational people from a variety of sectors and industries'.

Mrs. Williams (W) sat down with Skarlyte (S) and Layla (L) to ask them about this amazing opportunity. Please enjoy their interview below.

W: Can you tell me a bit about the UBS program?

(L) This will be a very engaging course and I am really looking forward to meeting industry and business representatives, especially the women.

(S) I am looking forward to the work experience opportunities and what that may lead to in the future, as I believe there could be some internships on offer after the program.

W: What will the program mean to you?

(S) I believe this will open up opportunities and expose us to women who are doing really well in their chosen profession.

(L) I agree with Skarlyte and I am excited for this opportunity as I haven't seen anything like this in Kempsey.

W: What do you hope to get out of this program?

(L) I am looking forward to being exposed to these opportunities and to be able to get a better understanding of what jobs are out there for me.

W: Do you see yourselves working within the business and/or finance sector after school?

(L) I would really love to be able to work within the Law sector.

(S) I see myself working in the Defence Force.

W: What would you say to students at KHS, particularly the young girls about their future ambitions?

(S) I would like to say that hard work really pays off and if you really want to try something then you should just go for it as you won't regret giving something a go.

(W) Thank you girls for taking a few moments to answer some questions about the exciting UBS program.and I hope the time down in Sydney is a great learning experience for you both.

Layla and Skarlyte would like to thank Miss McKay for all of her help with the application and Mr McKinney for writing a letter of support for them.
