Poetry in Action

On Friday the 26th of July, all of Year 7 English classes attended a visiting theatre performance in the Gym with Poetry in Action. Poetry In Action is an innovative touring theatre company with an enduring dedication to unlocking the power of words for everyone. They create professional theatre performances based on poetry to demonstrate the power and beauty of language. The performance was called UNLOCKING THE POETRY CODE. The performance followed two friends called Will and Ed.

The two friends are super keen to become world famous wordsmiths but suffer from only one obstacle: they’re terrible. But their lives change forever when they stumble upon a strange doctor who offers to unlock their hidden poetic potential and reveal how much they already know about poetry.

The friends are forced to confront their artistic blocks in hilarious fashion. These two intrepid wannabe poets will have to look inside their own minds to unlock the poetry code and save themselves from a digital wasteland.

The performance was a rollicking story filled with hilarious characters, wonderful poetry and irresistible comedy making this an effortless educational show. The students were entertained while learning about common poetic techniques such as rhyme, rhythm and figurative language.

At the completion of the performance, the actors were involved in a question-and-answer session with the students. The students got to ask questions of the performers. The performers praised the behaviour of the students that attended the performance.
