A message from the principal
Welcome back to Term 3. Year 12 now have less than eight weeks of school left and are busily preparing themselves for their Trial HSC examinations that will start next week. Enjoy your last term of high school Year 12 and please utilise your teachers’ skills and knowledge to best prepare yourselves for your HSC.
Year 11 is now less than one term away from their HSC year beginning and they will also be very busy in the classroom preparing themselves for their HSC year to begin in Term 4. Students in years 7 to 10 have started their semester two work with a mature and conscientious attitude.
This week is Education Week, which is a celebration of public education in NSW.
This year’s theme is: Proud to belong. Public Education Week is a time for all of us to feel “proud to belong”, sharing our pride in being part of NSW public education and the achievements of our students and staff.
KHS’s name was up in light’s last night to celebrate the start of Education Week at the Public Education Awards held at Sydney Town Hall.
Two members of our school community were acknowledged for their excellence.
Our school captain, Alice McNee, was awarded the Minister’s Award for Excellence in Student Achievement 2024. The Minister’s Award for Excellence in Student Achievement is a prestigious award presented to students who have demonstrated high achievement in academic excellence, leadership and commitment to the school community. Only 40 students across the state are awarded this achievement each year which means that this is a wonderful achievement for Alice that she & her family should be proud of. KHS certainly is.
Mrs Louise Ryan, our Business Manager, was awarded The Secretary’s Award for Excellent Service – Teaching and School Operations 2024. The Secretary’s Award for Excellent Service is a prestigious award presented to individuals who have shown outstanding effort in improving the quality of teaching and/or learning outcomes in the NSW public education sector. It recognises an individual’s achievements in providing excellent service and their contributions to their professional communities. Mrs Ryan has worked tirelessly for KHS for over 20 years & is much deserving of this acknowledgement.
We are also very pleased to congratulate Amelia Groth who was announced as the recipient of a Minster’s Commendation for her student achievement. A certificate will be sent to the school & we will present this to Amelia. Well done Amelia.
The KHS community genuinely congratulates Alice, Mrs Ryan and Amelia.
On Tuesday we held our NAIDOC ceremony with our school community where we celebrated the 2024 theme - “Keep the Fire Burning”, which symbolises the unbreakable spirit and cultural vitality of Indigenous communities. Thanks to all in the KHS community who were part of organising or participating in this great event.
