Principal's Panorama

Miss Justine Goonan

Hello Everyone,

Next week in Week Four we celebrate the Feast Day of St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop. At Sacred Heart School we will give thanks for St. Mary MacKillop and her work with the Josephite sisters and providing a faith education for all. We will celebrate with a Mass this Wednesday, that parents and carers are invited to join us, at 12 pm in the Sacred Heart Church.

Parent Teacher Meetings

On Monday the 12th of August, we will be having a Pupil Free Day to run our Parent Teacher Meetings. These meetings will be an opportunity to discuss student progress, achievement, strengths and opportunities for growth. Meetings will run for 15 minutes each, with a small amount of time provided to teachers in between, to assist everyone’s meetings going ahead at the designated time. We ask that students accompany parents and carers to the meetings, so they can share their input throughout the meeting. We understand that some parents may not be able to make it onsite, or will require later timeslots, so meetings will run from 8.30 am to 5.20 pm. If you require a phone or online meeting to enable you to participate, please email your child’s/ren’s teacher. The Parent Teacher Meeting booking system will be open on PAM on Monday.

Picasso Cows Project

At the beginning of Term Two, we signed up to participate in the Picasso Cows Project. Having had Cordelia sitting in the foyer unpainted for a while, we decided to add to the herd. Mrs Nagy took onto the Picasso Cow Project with the Year 5/6 class learning about the processes involved in a Dairy Farm, creating their designs and finally adding them to Cordelia. They created a video presentation to share their learning with the Picasso Cow Project team and receiving an incredible score of 48/50 and the title of Best Cow Design overall. This is an incredible achievement for all involved, with all students thrilled that it comes with a $1,000 prize for the School. The Student Leadership team have begun receiving ideas on how this prize money can be spent. The rest of the school are busy finishing their designs on our second cow (yet to be named) which we also look forward to sharing with you all soon too. Hopefully you’ll see our Sacred Heard Herd around the school in the coming weeks as we finalise the decorating and sealing of the cows.

100 Days of School for our Foundation students

This week we celebrated 100 days of learning for our Foundation students. There is no doubt that they all looked a great deal older and wiser (Staff included too). Please check out their wonderful dress ups for the day in the Sacred Heart Happenings section.

Corryong Spirit

The Parents & Carers community will be catering at the upcoming Corryong Spirit event on August 16. We will be running a sausage sizzle throughout the event. If you are able to volunteer any of your time to help out with cooking, serving or setting up and packing down, it would be greatly appreciated. Please send through an email to admin@shcorryong.catholic.edu.au

Parent and Carer Community Group

This week we held our Parent and Carer Community Group meeting.

We discussed :

  • The upcoming Corryong Spirit event,
  • Feedback from our Parent Information and Come and Try day for Foundation 2025 students,
  • Feedback from the Student Leadership Team
  • My upcoming Principal Appraisal
  • The recent Khancoban Kitchen Fundraiser, thank you all for your support of this fundraiser!
  • Cans for Collection - We now have bulka bags for collection at Cudgewa Pub, Corryong Hotel, Tintaldra Pub and the one found on the side of the school site. We also had a recent donation from a local family after one of their events. A big thank you to Don's Freight who look after our can collection points and deposit these on behalf of the school.
  • Hot Food Lunches - are a real hit with the students. Thank you to the Parents who have volunteered their time to come and collect these from school.

Our next P and C meeting will be on Tuesday 8th October at 3.30 pm in the School Library. All Parents and Carers are welcome to come along to any meeting at any time.

Leo's Fundraiser for Kids with Cancer

As some of you may know, our Year 5 student Leo has been growing his hair for many years and finally he has reached the length needed to donate his hair to Wigs for Kids, in conjunction with raising money for The Kids with Cancer Foundation.

Leo is delighted to be doing something to help another kid and just wants to make someone happy by donating his hair.

If you would like to support Leo's fundraiser please clink on the link above.

It is wonderful to see Leo's thoughtfulness in donating his hair to this cause and also wanting to raise funds towards creating it into a wig for another child. A very commendable effort! Well done Leo from all of us at Sacred Heart School, we're very proud of your demonstration of Charity!

Sacrament of Reconciliation

The Sacred Heart Parish would like to gather information regarding the Sacrament of Reconciliation. If you would like to have your child celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation please notify the school via email to admin@shcorryong.catholic.edu.au or coliver@shcorryong.catholic.edu.au. We will then communicate with the Sacred Heart Parish Wodonga and discuss with you how we may move forward with the sacramental program in Term 3.

Sacrament Program:– Reconciliation (requirements: Baptised in the Catholic Church. Normally offered to Grade 3)However, there may be families who are requesting catch-ups for a variety of reasons.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Principal Appraisal

I’m looking forward to my upcoming Principal Appraisal organised and facilitated by Catholic Education Sandhurst. The feedback from all Families, Staff and Students will be used to assist me in creating goals to develop my leadership at Sacred Heart School. Kasie sent out the invitations to the survey by email last week, with surveys closing next week. I would appreciate you taking the time to provide the feedback if you can and thank you to those who already have.

Leave

Next week I will be taking leave, being supported by many wonderful leaders at Sacred Heart who will be leading the school in my absence. If you need anything from a leader please call the School office, or email admin@shcorryong.catholic.edu.au and Kasie will point you in the right direction.
