NAPLAN Summary Reports
This afternoon students in year 3,5,7 & 9 will be bringing home a copy of their 2024 NAPLAN Summary Report. These reports are in envelopes and addressed to students and parents. Please keep an eye out for this today and ask your child for it if they forget to take it out of their bag.
Whilst the results of these tests are just a snapshot of your child’s progress on one specific day, they are also a useful guide as to how their learning is progressing, their strengths and areas for future development.
School is better when your child is there
Why it’s important
We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day.
If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school.
There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.
Days missed= years lost
1 day per fortnight= they miss 4 weeks per year = and over 1 year of their schooling life
1 day per week = they miss 8 weeks per year = and over 2.5 years of their schooling life
Top attendance tips for parents
- Merbein P10 wants to work in partnership with parents – act early if you have any concerns by contacting your child’s school and asking for advice and support
- Remember that every day counts
- There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes and their social connectedness
- Talk positively about school and the importance of attending every day
- Open and prompt communication with the school about all absences is a good idea
- Avoid making routine medical and dental appointments during the school day or planning family holidays during the term
- Seek help from your school if you are concerned about your child’s attendance and wellbeing. The school wants to work in partnership with parents to support student attendance and wellbeing.
Doctor's in Schools
Any Secondary student that wishes to make an appointment with the doctor can do so by coming into the main office or call 50 252 501
Flu Vaccinations - Doctor's in Schools
To help you stay well this winter, flu vaccinations can be purchased and administered in the Doctors in Schools Clinic, for Secondary Students, for $15.00 (cash only, to be paid to nurse on arrival. Please have correct money)
Please book appointments through the school office.
Free flu vaccinations are available for eligible priority groups.
These priority groups include:
- children aged 6 months to 5 years
- people aged 65 years old and over
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
- pregnant women – at any stage of pregnancy
- people aged 6 months and older with medical conditions putting them at increased risk of severe flu and its complications.
Children and adolescents need special protection from the flu, especially babies and toddlers. The flu vaccine is just as important as other routine childhood vaccines and will protect them against the most common strains of the flu.
